To be honest...

Marry just wanted to curl up somewhere and go to sleep for a very long time. But, hadn’t the ai said ‘you will surely see your loved ones once again’? If it were Kido, if it were Momo, if it were Seto-- wouldn’t they go look?

For the chance to meet each other again.

Thinking those sorts of thoughts, something warm touches Marry thoughts, and the small girl manages to make herself stand despite the weakness in her legs and the aching in her heart.

“Please... please let me meet them again...” the girl says, her hands clasped together. She squeezes her eyes shut, and takes the first step forward--

right into someone.

Swing--

The wind is cold, as it blows through the unfamiliar yet reminiscent city. The sounds of discord are heard below, from all the servants and masters who had just awoken. It was almost like a scene from a movie.

Perched above all of that, swinging his legs precariously off the rail of a high up pathway, watching the cacophony with a contemplative expression was a teenage boy.

“This is the grail war, huh?”

Footsteps approach from the pathway, and the boy turns his body slightly to watch the new arrival--

“Good morning. Quite the mess we’ve awoken too...”

It’s a soft voice. Even he’s not quite sure what to make of the situation, after all.

Where was that shop again? She’d seen it when she was out wandering before, but now that she had actually resolved to go in, she’d forgotten where it was. Ruth didn’t seem to recall either, which was impressive, since they shared a mental link. 

But either way, she’d gone and gotten herself lost. She sighed and looked around, pausing when she noticed someone practicing...were they dancing? Feeling like she shouldn’t intrude, she turned to go, only to trip on the sidewalk and fall forward. Ruth was already chastising her, but she was the only one who could hear it.

She winced slightly as she sat up, glad she hadn’t ripped her leggings, at least. Then she shot an apologetic glance at the person she’d interrupted. “Er...sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb you..”

Birthdays are important to anyone. No matter who you are, your birth is always a blessing and is a reason to celebrate.

Especially yours because y--

Natsume would rehearse these lines, determined, but whenever he gets to the important parts his mind just blanks out for some reason and his face finds itself upon the kitchen counter. This happens several times.

He was okay.  Probably.

Well in the end, it didn’t really matter what he had to say, he decided. He just, he just needed to show someone that his birthday is one of the most blessed days on this earth.

That’s all. Not that he wanted to make this one better than the last birthday they celebrated together or anything. Not that he wanted to try to be more honest. Maybe. Whatever.

That’s why the young magus was found at a little around 6 am of a certain specific and maybe special date, by a certain specific and absolutely special someone’s door, with a box, another oddly shaped parcel, and a simple card that read, in elegantly written English script:

      “Happy Birthday”

He had forgotten, at the time, of his servant’s disappearance. (The disappearance itself was--well, he couldn’t really tell if it were a blessing or a curse. He and that servant had quite the ah, rapport, though he knew of what losing a servant at that time could possibly entail. But anyway,) This was why he found himself halfway back to his quarters, with three bags of groceries that were meant for two people.

He only realized this fact when his arms started to ache from the weight. He sighed.

Placing the parcels on the floor for a brief moment, he sighs. Deciding to stretch his arms before continuing, he just about does so-- but his arm is interrupted, coming into contact with someone.

　　　“Oh.”

He was a little too surprised to speak. He turns to whoever he happened to hit, an apology about to leave his mouth.

“Y’know, for this being a Utopia it can be pretty dangerous sometimes. You’d think the Holy Grail thing would make it a bit more, y’know, holy.”

Despite the fact that this place was named Utopia he was having a hard time believing that. There were still thieves and the occasional monster around that he’d found. It certainly didn’t help that he was adding to the ‘monsters’ by summoning forth his Assassin Nobodies. Not that anyone had to know that he was the one bringing those about. If one more person came up to him, demanding some form of belongings he was probably going to...well, he’d already killed a couple of people. What was one more?

This entire event was a nightmare, a literal nightmare. Hakuno knew that some of the citizens or NPCs would run a little wild but she didn’t imagine that she would end up hiding away from them. The NPCs were TOO wild and needed to calm down, no wonder that AI wanted Servants to get involved in this. There would be no way to calm this situation without putting some of the NPCs down and at least injured them heavily, but there was only one issue. 

Hakuno kept getting mistaken as an NPC instead of a Master. 

“...”

This was quite a mess, she thought this was going to be a rather simple gathering mission but sadly her life was in danger. The best she could do was sit in this alleyway and wait for Gilgamesh to come and pick her up, at the very least she won’t cause trouble for herself and...

Blinking, Hakuno was too busy with her own thoughts that she didn’t even noticed a boy, looking to be a year older than her but obviously having that babyface.

The sheer absurdity of this entire situation was, quite frankly, beyond belief. Claiming that some kind of cataclysm had befallen the world? Did they really expect anyone, let alone him, to believe such a thing?

...Yet, he really had no way to prove otherwise. Every attempt to make sense of anything leading up to this only seemed to cause him pain--quite literally, in fact. The situation alone was giving him enough of a migraine, he really didn’t need to push it any further on his own accord.

Thus, he’d taken to wandering the streets (rather, it looked more like storming the streets to any passerby), with Mademoiselle hoisted in one hand, and the odd ‘Triplicata’ device he’d been given stored soundly within one of his pockets. Ah, how he wished he could simply brush this off as a fever dream of some sort, but everything was far too real to be such a thing. Including the mark now etched upon the once clean skin of his right hand--it felt vulgar. Like they’d gone and branded him as some sort of livestock, though he was well aware that wasn’t the purpose of the mark.

“Unacceptable...!” Shu hisses quietly through gritted teeth, feeling uncomfortable emotions rising within him the further along he wandered. “How dare that- that they’re...!”

“Shu-kun, please calm down,” Mademoiselle urges--as Shu knows he’d do well to speak to somebody in order to relax somewhat. This was far better than picking off some stranger off the streets. “We’ll figure this out, right? We always figure everything out, don’t we ♪? And we can start by trying to find our ‘private room,’ so... hmm?”

His attention snaps, eyes catching sight of a familiar face wandering his way, and Shu mutters something quietly under his breath once the face fully registers in his mind. Why now?

“Oh, my! Tsumugi-chan!” Mademoiselle’s voice comes out instead of Shu’s, as he simply stands where he is, eyes narrowing as though he were scrutinizing the other boy. “You found us~. Surely you must be doing alright...? Shu-kun isn’t doing so well, maybe your company will brighten his mood a little bit~.”
