Ayurnamat: The philosophy that there is no point in worrying about events that cannot be changed.
—
"Well- that’s unexpected." a small parchment wrinkled in Zaire’s hand as he gazed at its contents, oblivious to the cream lioness who was twitching her tail apprehensively beside him.
"Unexpected? What’s wrong? Zaire, what does it say?" her face was creased into a frown, pale eyes peering at him worriedly.
Ruffling his hair, he crouched down and showed the paper to her, waiting for the words to sink in. As her gaze scoured the note, the unmistakable look of despair fell across her face.
“This… this is a draft letter.” She muttered numbly. Zaire only nodded. Instantly her eyes grew intense.
“But you’re not- you can’t- we have to contest this. Go to the courts, ask for a boon, I’m sure someone will understa-“
Zaire gave a weak laugh, shaking his head. “They won’t listen to us. We’re common folk, Kama, they only do that for nobility.”
“This is a death sentence, Zaire! We’re not soldiers, we don’t belong on a battlefield! There has to be /something/ we can do!” Kamaria’s voice rose, a panicked conviction edging into her tone.
“Hey, hey- don’t worry about it, Kama, we’ll be alright- you’re fast, they’ll probably have you work as a messenger or supply carrier or something.”
She huffed, deflating a bit. Only then did her concern become apparent- not for herself, but for her partner. “That’s not what I meant, Zaire. This is dangerous- you’ll get killed.”
“I’ll be alright. They train you before you go out on missions and everything:
“You’re not the least bit worried, are you?” she frowned, exasperated.
He merely shrugged. “Nah. Wouldn’t change anything, would it?”
The lioness sighed as her shoulders slumped. “I suppose not.”
Silence stretched on for some time, neither knowing what to say.
“Well,” he mused, bringing the letter to his face with a ruffle of paper. “Says here we got three months. So I don’t think we need to worry about it yet.”
“Worry about it? But-“
He stood up, shoving the paper in his pockets without a second thought before glancing down at her. “Kama, hear me out for a minute. If we let this dumb letter sit on our heads for the next three months, we’ll be miserable the whole time. We have three months! That’s… what, ninety days? We have plenty of time, so we should use it to live life here a little ‘till it’s all doom and gloom over there, don’t you think?”
“If you say so,” she sighed, not entirely convinced. He was right about having fun before they left, but it wasn’t the best idea to simply ignore it until it came knocking on their door. They needed a plan, they needed to pack- but there was no getting through to him when he was like this, she knew that. So- for now at least- she let it go.
“Alright- well, then, let’s go!” Zaire crowed, parading forward.
“Go? But where are we going?” Kamaria asked, loping after him.
“To the city, of course!”
She shook her head, but smiled, and darted forward. “Come on, then! We’re wasting time just walking!”
“Wha- Kama! Hey, Kama, wait up!” he called, blinking in surprise before bolting after her.
Glancing back, she laughed at his pitiful attempt to catch up and slowed down a bit. With each pawstep her thoughts grew lighter and, despite her better judgment, pushed back the heavy thoughts of war and drafts.
She would start worrying tomorrow.
(Go for it man uvu)

Biggest pet peeve: As of right now, trivializing real, traumatizing issues such as rape or abuse with jokes and when said people ‘pretend’ to rape / abuse their friends. ._. I haven’t been that freaking mad in a loooong time yikes.
