The Catch of a Lifetime chapter 5 of 5 COMPLETE

James/Q

A canon-divergent NTTD fix it, where Q never joined MI6.

When Q moved to a remote beach in Jamaica, he was prepared to deal with oppressively hot weather, unpleasant amounts of sand, and stifling solitude. It would be worth it if it kept him hidden and safe.

What Q wasn’t prepared for, was one of his cats running out his front door and forcing Q to chase him down the beach, all the way to his nearest neighbor. A neighbor bearing fresh caught fish; wearing distractingly tight clothing; with a far too knowing smile, and secrets of his own.

Hello! Thank you for asking! :)

I find myself returning over and over to the idea of a very specific NTTD fix-it. In it, Q decides not to cancel his date, and while he takes the flash drive, he tells Moneypenny and Bond to come back in the morning if they want to discuss it. This has a sort of "butterfly effect" on the subsequent plot--in other words, it's the one small thing that changes everything else. I haven't quite worked out the 'how,' but I think maybe Bond, now plan-less for the evening, finds out from Moneypenny that Madeleine is in London and working at Belmarsh, and goes to see her instead. He finally starts to understand that she didn't betray him, she agrees to get him in to see Blofield, and Bond happens to be there when Safin tries to force Madeleine's hand, and so Safin is killed, arrested, stopped or sidelined somehow--take your pick.

Q and Bond aren't the endgame in this one, I don't think. I'm not sure if Bond and Madeleine get back together yet, or if there's too much hurt and guilt there for them to move forward. I do think that regardless, they find a way to be in each other's lives, and co-parent Mathilde (and, needless to say, Bond lives and stays retired).

And what about Q? Well, I'm glad you asked! ;) In this daydream plot, I have (potentially?) made up a bureau/department of MI6 out of whole cloth, the Analysis (or A) Branch. The head of Analysis, who is maybe a former agent (?), has flirted with Q for months and has finally asked Q on a first date--which is the one Q decides to keep! In my mind, the fact that they both work at MI6 means that he can understand crucial things about Q's work and work/life balance (or lack thereof), while the fact that he's not an agent means some of the trickier bits of trying to navigate an inter-MI6 relationship (a la 00Q) simply don't exist. They have the date, it goes wonderfully, after the Heracles debacle wraps, they see each other again, and end up together. Do I just want to give Q good things? Yes! Is this also an elaborate set up so I can use Q&A as the ship name? Also yes!!! :D

Merry NTTD Fix-it Fics!

Since the dvd release is upon us, I figured it'd be a good time to make a new post about my No Time To Die fix-it fics. They come in three different flavors, each complete and ready to enjoy!

Each is a different AU. Each includes a happy 00Q ending!

No NTTD spoilers in this post, but obviously NTTD spoilers in the fics! (click on the titles below to go to ao3 to read the fics.)

Hope Springs Eternal: This one starts soon after the end of NTTD and follows movie canon fairly closely.

Trust is a Form of Love: This one starts mid-NTTD, and diverges from movie canon from there.

The Catch of a Lifetime: This one starts before NTTD and differs a great deal from canon, but many of the major elements are still there.

Again, all three fics have happy endings with Bond and Q together! Enjoy!

This is a DeLiCioUs take on what happens in That Scene Missing from NTTD. Yes, it’s quip-after-quip funny…and…there is a tenderness from Bond at the beginning which surprised me. L o v e seeing how Q has grown + changed over the past five years and is unwilling to let Bond condescend to him. Plus hot sexy times? Thank you @cicaklah for an all around delight!
