D R A B B L E ~ M E M E {Nuage-Alouette}
1. Love Me -- Hibari
Pallid fingertips slide over the ebony exterior of a grand piano, sea foam colored hues staring idly at the instrument before him and he idly wonders when he last played. It's been several years at least, the last time he sat down and played a melody being at the age of thirteen in a hotel he'd snuck into late at night. A low huff of hair expels from his lips and he slides down onto the bench, wondering if anyone here actually played the piano or if the musical instrument was merely a remnant of the days when someone in the Vongola Mansion actually did know how to create melodies. He's hesitant, fingers brushing over the ivory keys and he wonders if he truly wishes to play anything at all. It's been so long and already the memories of his childhood wash over him, the food poisoning and the constant push to be perfect and it takes a deep breath to get him started.
Lithe fingers dance over the keys, playing a melody from pure memory and he can't say he's surprised that not a single note is missed. All the training as a child hadn't gone to waste and the ghost of a smile tugs at his lips. Well, that's one thing he can thank his family for. The only thing, really, but he pushes that thought aside with a sigh as he hits another note of some old Italian love song, the only thing to come to mind, and he finds it ironic that of all things, that's the melody he finds himself playing. The memories from his childhood fade are replaced with images of a past fight, occurring just days ago between himself and Vongola's Cloud Guardian, and there's a painful tug in his chest that he can't quite shake. Such a stupid fight, his own fault, and he hisses quietly at his own stupidity. The next key is hit a littler harder than it should've been and the sound is elongated but he doesn't care, words that never should have been said playing through his mind. This is breakup number one-hundred-and-twenty-five if he remembers correctly and the laugh that escapes him is a hollow one. Can't go a single week together, and the thought is an unwanted one.
He's about to push away from the piano, the song uncompleted but his mood--which wasn't a good one to begin with--in shatters when someone sits down beside him and only one person could be so quiet. He falters a moment, but continues playing if only to fill the silence, the awkward, guilt ridden silence that surrounds them. Hibari is staring at him, waiting for something--and apology, maybe--but Gokudera can't seem to find the right words and thus, he says nothing. A minute passes, then two, and then three and it finally the Storm Guardian manages to speak, tongue darting out over his lips in an effort to decrease the dry feeling in his mouth.
"Didn't you have an assignment?" He whispers, voice barely heard over the notes of the piano and Hibari stares a moment longer before shifting his gaze to Gokudera's fingers, watching with idle interest. He's silent for what feels like an eternity, goosebumps growing along the bomber's spine before the carnivore's lips part and he answers.
"They gave it to a herbivore instead." Hibari replies, not sounded particularly upset about said fact and Gokudera nods slightly, eyes darting back and forth from the piano to the male beside him. Hayato struggles with another question, something to break the tension that he swears Hibari must be feeling too, when there's suddenly a pair of lips pressed against his own. To hell with caution and forced conversation, as his hands immediately leave the keys, the melody stopping abruptly. He cups Hibari's face between his hands, fingers gently brushing back some of Kyouya's hair. Off again, on again--that's how this messed up, dysfunctional relationship works but he can't bring himself to break the cycle because he's in love and damn it all if that isn't the most pathetic sounding reason in the book. The bomber pulls away, slightly, forehead still touching Hibari's and he breathes out an apology--'I'm sorry; I love you.'--and the words are not returned with any sort of vocal response, but Hibari smiles, something other than a malicious grin, and Gokudera can't help but smile back. It's imperfect, it's a cacophony and there's no way this will end up working out in the end--too unstable, too unpredictable--but they can cross that bridge later, he figures, as he pulls Hibari onto his lap and brings him in for another kiss.
