In continuation of #everydayishalloween here’s the #BUFFALOBILL #SILENCEOFTHELAMBS print I designed back in 2017. . Funny story - an outside company asked me to design a poster for @laurajanegrace and their awesome band @againstme. If you swipe through you can see the original gig poster. And the original art - which are still available... #nudgenudge . FYI These were NEVER printed as #AgainstMe posters. . So yeah that funny story… the band was so angry with the guy curating the tour posters that they wanted nothing to do with the artwork. The guy threatened legal action against the band (& management) and wanted us to do the same. . Yeah… NO. . It was a bummer that the artists were collateral damage from whatever this guy had done to piss off the band. He didn’t pay us and eventually, most of us stopped working with the guy. That’s another funny story… . The screens had been burned and it was on the press when I got the news. Luckily the printer was cool enough to let me switch out one of the screens to make this into an art print at the last minute. . So that’s how this became an art print. . The IDEA came about when I was I was talking to my buddy David @vannenwatches about starting the project and he was helping me brainstorm weird ideas that work for the band's aesthetic and also be iconic. He came up with "Buffalo Bill" and suggested I explore the characters from Silence of the Lambs. I LOVE that movie. It TERRIFIED me as a kid. The monsters were human and eerily reflected what was going on in the city where I had grown up - Milwaukee. #ifyouknowthenyouknow . . ALL ORDERS shipping every day this week. THE SHINING 18”x24" and printed with #METALLIC inks!!! Screen Print http://bodega.brianewing.com/search.php?search_query=shining . Today is the 40th Anniversary of release of #THESHINING !!!! Release date: May 23, 1980 (USA) Director: #StanleyKubrick . This print was done as a teaser to my solo show #screamwithme 11/7/14 at @galerief in Chi-City! They should do another show with me! #nudgenudge . I went “a little crazy” on the research for the collage on this piece. I LOVE #Kubrick ’s films and the layers/conspiracies that are snuck into his works. I focused on that part with the collage. If you swipe through you can see a bajillion references to the movie and to the believable & over the top conspiracy theories. The #room237 documentary made my head explode and influenced the collage as well. #moonlandingfaked #washeassassinatedbytheilluminati . This is one of the first pieces where I worked small. I drew and inked the anatomy at 8.5 x 11. Up to that point I worked at 11x17 for everything. That took FOREVER! Since this was the first of many pieces I had to do for the show I decided to try working smaller. I haven’t turned back since. . Swipe to see the inks for this! I remember showing @crankbunny the sketch for this and she suggested I not draw the lips to make the drawing more aggressive. She’s a genius! . Detail of a collaboration I'm working on with one of the coolest photographers I've met @bryanhelm !!! PLEASE CHECK HIM OUT!!! . I can't wait to show off the rest of the piece! . I'm FINALLY trying out a comic book artist trick of printing the sketch in #blueline onto #bristolboard. The blue gets picked up by my scanner but is easily removed in photoshop!! It's saving me a ton of time during a deadline-heavy couple of months! I plan on doing more of my inking this way. . The inking part is still traditional. I use a @winsorandnewton series 7 sable size 0 brush and @fabercastellusa #pittpens. Thanks again to #fabercastell for sending me a box of them! Send more #nudgenudge! I use @alvindrafting circle templates @drphmartins #Blackstar #indiaink and mix it with a few drops of @rotringofficial #rapidograph ink. Exciting…I know. I don’t use white-out while inking. Just not a fan of how it yellows over time or worse - flakes away. Instead, I use an electric eraser. . . . The @FOOFIGHTERS A/Ps are now up in the shop!!! What's left of them at least!
