"The food can’t be that good.” He wiped his forehead with the back of his sleeve and shook his head. “Did you have to use tongue?! Di’kut.”

30 Day Drabble Challenge

They had gone exploring on Kal'buir's insistence that they not only learn how to sneak around but to learn their surroundings. Breaking themselves into smaller groups to avoid attention but not small enough to warrant much suspicion. He trailed away from his own group of brothers, enthralled by the way the light was currently hitting the streaks of water on the glass. He found a way to open the door and very cautiously took a step out. The natural light from outside was a very rare sight and an even rarer feeling, it warmed his face. He stood looking out over how the light shimmered off the rough waves, feeling the humidity becoming too much for him and the sight already committed to memory he went back inside, catching up to his brothers.

"Hey, ner vod, did I wake you?” A’den smiled wearily at his brother, amused by the death glare currently aimed in his direction. He patted Prudii’s shoulder as he invited himself into the small quarters.

"Figured this’d be a bad idea," he said as he settled down onto the couch, setting the unopened bottle on the floor at his feet. "Drinking alone and all that osik.”

When Prudii sat down beside him, A’den slumped sideways, wordlessly claiming his brother’s shoulder as his new pillow. 

"Tired," he mumbled into his brother’s shoulder. He nudged the bottle on the floor with the toe of his boot and closed his eyes. "You can keep that."

"A’den," hissed a little voice in the darkness.

Groaning, A’den flung his blanket off of his face and rolled over to stare in the general direction of the bottom bunk on the opposite wall.

"What."

Undaunted, six year old Prudii continued. “I was thinking about something we could do to Orun Wa.”

Silence filled the room. A’den yawned, nodding as his eyes adjusted to the faintest light glowing underneath the door from the hallway beyond.

"Okay. But why couldn't this wait until morning?"

Prudii snorted. "Genius plans don't need mornings."

With another groan, A'den pulled his covers back over his face. "Well I  will be here in the morning, so go to sleep."
