Get fancy pants pizza on the cheap
Where: Numero 28 (176 Second Avenue, East Village).
I grew up in Chicago, so pizza has always been one of my main food groups. Moving to New York, it’s hard to find “the place” but Numero 28 is one of my favorite go tos. Introduced to me two months back, I have been 3 times since and can’t get enough.
Tell me more: This Italian gem serves authentic, Neapolitan Pizza, baked in a brick oven. Using only natural and fresh ingredients, this thin crust masterpiece comes out in an oblong shape that is perfect for sharing.
Although there are salads, noodles and sammies on the menu, you simply must go pizza. My two favs are:
San Daniele (Prosciutto S. Daniele, Rucola, Mozzarella) – $15 to $33 depending on size.
Tartufo (Mushroom sautee in Truffle Oil) – $16 to $33 depending on size.
Outdoor seating. In the warmer months, I will always pick outdoors>indoors no matter how hot or how long the wait is. Numero has plenty of space.
They make sure you are hydrated. This is a big thing for me. When you sit down, they give you an entire pitcher of water so you don’t have to wait for your server/ don’t pass out in the heat.
On Restaurant.com. This daily deal site offers $25 gift certificates to Numero that you can purchase for between $2-$10 (depends on the day).
Plenty of choices. Don’t like pizza (freak)? Not to worry, there are plenty of other options on the menu (I’ve heard the eggplant parm is a treat).
You can try more than one pizza. Want the San Daniele and Tartufo? You can ask to do half and half. Cheers to variety.
