You tell me “it ain't what it seems”
But, baby, this is lookin' like a crime scene
.. they've been crying for a while cause they also didn't know that our lover loved us both
Like a cloud his fingers exploded on the typewriter ribbon
the shadow grows
His hearts in a bowl behind the bank
we was in love on the night that we conceived him
(also, yes, a new day)
Well I know what's right
I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin' me around
But I'll stand my ground
And I won't back down
I still to this day remember my mother refusing to let us get cable because she said big brother would be able to see in our home. Big brother is watching you is one of the only things I remember from the 80’s. Started to feel a little more real when there were things left to make sure I knew I was being watched. I’m watching the handmaidens tale right now, and all I can say is I know what it feels like to have Eyes all around you.
In doctor's-office-lighting, I didn't tell you I was scared (this i have to assume about Jakk holding my hand during the abortion)
Sister Buddha checking out the scene
When I was a kid in Catholic school, I remember knowing god wanted me to be a nun, and I was hell-bent against it. I wanted to live in a fancy chicago apartment and be an actress & have a double wedding with my cousin, not be a sister. The first time they played this I knew God was reminding me he always gets his way. I won’t join a convent, per se, but I definitely get that it’s his way or the highway.
Or maybe both.
Your name is being called by sacred things
That are not addressed nor listened to
Sometimes they blow trumpets
“Lyrically, there has been many attempts to uncover the song’s meaning, but the most telling explanation has been Kate’s short description in an interview:
“Big Stripey Lie” is a law unto itself and nearly didn’t make it onto the album.
With “a law unto oneself” defined as behaving in an independent way, ignoring laws, rules, or conventional ways of doing things, it becomes clear that the song depicts someone’s jungle-like emotional world occurring due to the disregard of rules and laws.”
I would guess this is the difficulties in a relationship which is being compared to a jungle and animals. The Lie is treated like an actual animal in itself. It's a big predator but it's camoflaged. Kind of like a tiger. If you don't look out, that thing that has been skulking in the undergrowth is going to jump out from behind and get you.
There is a drug addict amongst us in danger of an overdose. And if you’re reading this, you know this person.
