By the Sword follows the story of Tumble, a young boy who dreams of becoming the new Dragon Gym Leader of Galar like his hero, Leader Raihan. But when he embarks on a Pokemon journey with the intent of one day facing his idol in battle, he discovers the ancient gods of the region have a different destiny in store for him.

By the Sword is based on a 2019 Nuzlocke run of Pokemon Sword.
