He drops a bunch of carrots on the doorstep and ding dong ditches the fuq out happy april fools SUCKER
Mineo hears a loud knock on the door, almost immediately ruling out Okazaki, since if something was that urgent, he’d bounce right in through the window. Today is a day Takeru isn’t in, probably because he’s off doing… something else. Regardless, Mineo decides to, cautiously, open the door. He doesn’t hear the soft thuds the carrots make from piling atop each other on the ground, nor does he hear the rapid footsteps of a certain seaweed satisfied with his bitter work.
Then he opens the door and realizes that, one, he’s been ding dong ditched and, two, his foot is brushing up again the most heinous of sights, pure poison.
His stomach twists. He’s feeling faint, the memory of their disgusting taste resurfacing. He might just throw up (how dishonorable, to be struck down like this). He staggers back. No, no, the demon commander fought to the bitter end, struck down by a bullet while on horseback while still fighting! This is… nothing…
Right… he won’t be executed like this… not before things are unraveled… not before Hoshino’s collar is removed. There’s… so much he wanted to do in life. Have a real romance, rediscover himself, live a good life… but it’s all coming to an end.
He falls backward in a style that could have been amplified by Super Studio Quality Suspense Spreading Slow Motion. He tries to smile, but he’s feeling too ill to do it. Hahaha… what an ending… Honestly, he’s probably falling like that because he slipped on one of those evil orange spears but that’s a minor detail when there should be a preparation to a remembrance. If any one cared. Honestly, they’d probably think he was just lying down and contemplating something that isn’t worth asking him about. Let Mineo do as he does, or something.
So as the carrots roll and he lands with a thud, his eyes shut. It’s a knock out! A defeat!
Some “April Fools,” Seaweed, you killed a man.
Paint + imagination
He deserves to be the honer of his honor. It’s that natural. So… So how dare Takeru insult the dreams he has! This is… This is his high school life and he’s going to live it to his fullest! Even if he can’t, exactly, live too much in the world of romance and chances of that sort, given that, haha, Kalamari Gakuen is Boys Only Enrollment.
Why did he choose this school?!
D-Did he think he was going to stumble into a cafe and meet the love of his life in an instant? This isn’t a cafe AU, you fool!!
Of course, Yanagi is really cool, but Shiraishi’s weird, Okazaki’s invasive, and Takeru’s a real pain!
But, no matter how reality really is, he still has more time before class, so instead of engaging the seaweed, he decides just to retreat to the place where he is the coolest in town, his head. Not that he isn’t amazing in real life, it’s just, well…
“Ah, the fool chooses to daydream aloud, disturbing the peace.”
“Haa? The bitter opponent puts his foot forward, and dares challenge the Sleeping Dragon of this school!”
“Sleeping means no contest. Don’t waste the air, idiot.”
Takeru doesn’t miss a beat, and Mineo is ready to pounce into the speech he deserves to make, when the door classroom door opens, revealing a face he’s never seen before. Of course, it’s to be expected, considering the time and everything.
Quick murmurers will spread the world over, and though he tries not to fall victim to their hype, his curiosity on just what is the fuse causes him to stretch his neck, nearly falling over in the process, from both the distance and the shock.
“...Heh?”
…T-That’s… a… a…
“a woman?!”
For all things considered, no one’s called the man a subtle genius, but commotions will be commotions and the totally-possibly-his-type-cute-new-classmate who’s peering around the other new guy is sighing a bit. She’s likely overwhelmed by all the attention! Calm down, he hears the ever reliable Yanagi tell him, but he’s also chanting a calm down repetition. His self-introduction? An absolute failure, squished and sputtered after Okazaki’s, and cut off gracelessly by Takeru’s.
Time, please be my friend!!
There’s absolutely no way he’s not going to try to befriend her, even if his nerves are shot when she’s glances his way. Hoshino Ichika, an older sister, according to Saeki Yuzuru, who happens to be sibling of another himself. Hell yeah for sibling solidarity, a point of conversation he can totally use as a secret weapon but – hey! that’s not the point!
“Oi, Yuzuru,” Mineo calls, “What’s that you got there?”
“Oh! Good eye!”
Saeki laughs, waving at the red head.
“Though, I’m just returning what I borrowed from Hoshino. She really saved me~ Well, later!”
“Ah, I see! Hoshino’s real helpful! Well, that’s to be expected, considering she’s so… hard-working!” Mineo grins, “Truly the strength of an organized refreshing existence, we–”
Saeki is already gone by that point. And it only takes Mineo seconds to settle into the reason why.
It… is lunch after all. Hoshino’s bound to back soon. Ever cool and diligent, she was tasked with taking the papers to the faculty office. Satake-sensei might be talking her ear off… about stories of… him? That’s embarrassing! Stop, stop, stop!
Well… Satake-sensei would talk regardless…
He can imagine it, Satake’s ever casual voice, “Jou-chan, Enomoto’s–”
AHH?!
His imagination running just as fast as his clocked times in track, Mineo tries to shake it off, finding himself yelling, audible, just as… Hoshino walks into the classroom. “Ah…”
He says it, she says it, as he looks up, their eyes locking. This should be a shoujo manga moment, but there aren’t any sparkles, no random floral blooms. The heart beat is there however, for him. What is she thinking? What is she thinking? WHAT IS SHE THINKING?!
Enomoto, calm down, Yanagi would likely say, but Yanagi is not present, unfortunately, so the result is a really red young man, and a very curious young lady.
“Enomoto-kun..?”
“A-Ah… Th-This is… Don’t worry about it, Hoshino!! I just!! Ahahahaaaa…” That’s right, laugh it off! Lighten the air! Wait, this... this is bad... Takeru’s in the room. Haaa, he just saw that too!! The seaweed doesn’t need anything more to hold over me -- what if he says something and for some reason she’s the type to like major bitter types like him? Maybe she’s an... m-m-m...
Mineo can’t even finish that thought, the line leading him quickly into despair (coupled with how embarrassing his audible yell just had been, this is a messy day for this master-turned-back-into-a-grasshopper). She’s right in front of him and he’s still, like this. How embarrassing! Of course, he doesn’t know her, nor does he know her intentions, but she’s... just too...
“Umm, if it’s alright, we can eat together?”
She realizes that he might not answer her immediately, so she decides to push her desk closes to him anyway.
“You haven’t eaten much yet... Are you alright?”
Ah, right, usually he eats way faster. Sometimes Yanagi purposely brings more food than he can eat so that Mineo can get a balanced meal and not just quickly buy from the school store. But he’s been so caught up in his fantasies that he didn’t... eat yet. Whoops.
But this is an opportunity, right? He’s got to bounce back up! They’re going to eat lunch together!!
“Y-Yeah! I’m fine! Absolutely fine! Never can anything cold and bitter and definitely not wrong can keep a future hero like me tied down!” He hears a mutter of ‘the idiots are too noisy’ from Takeru, but he pushes it aside, too tunneled in on Hoshino to care, “and I’m even better now!”
“Ahaha, really?”
“Yeah!”
“I’m glad. You seemed really troubled...”
She’s cute and kind! Feisty too, considering... the other day... haha... but, wait, she was worried, about me?
Mineo wonders why. Does being down not suit him? Is there something special about his -- oh! She’s smiling now! She really is... an angel...
“Did you want this? I brought some... extra, and it’d be no good if it goes to waste...”
Why did she bring more than one bento? For Saeki Yuzuru? Are they sure they’re not..? Never mind, never mind! He doesn’t want to ruin his chances before he even has one!
“Really? Thanks a bunch, Hoshino!” Get it out fast, take it, raise his chopsticks, and eat! It’s really good too, she made it, right? It’s... amazing!!
Then, he realizes that this is almost like they might actually be dating, sharing food, eating together. She’d make a really cute wi--
Haaaa!!!!!!! Lucky me!!!!!!
Yes, there goes the ever moving painting of his ever expansive imagination.
Devotion + alone
He thought he had found it, true love. Perhaps he did. No, he’s certain he did. Even if he’s found others attractive before, it’s her that weighs his mind. She broke down his walls, this equal of his. She made him stronger, and she would say he made her stronger too.
He thumbs through one of his books, but reading it doesn’t feel the same. None of it feels the same. Sure, everything is over, but he didn’t want everything to be. His life, it’s intertwined with hers. They built each other up.
So… how could he lose her?
This isn’t betrayal. No. He doesn’t want to consider her actions in that light. Things went south, every moment replaying, as if on a slow, classic film reel. The end of this crime drama wasn’t predicted – no, a tragic ending isn’t what it’s supposed to be.
Ah, this section… one that always brought him to tears, only weighs heavier on his shoulders. He shuts the book, the pages clapping together, taking a deep breath.
We promised a life together…
But there are plot twists in life. It’s impossible to predict exactly how things will go, even if it hurts. It wasn’t her fault, what remained on the scene. There is no blame upon her reaction; it’s heavy, her justice shaken, her shoulders immediately dropping, eyes glazing over, stomachs dropping. The unfortunate decimation of their future… is this, huh? Broken, blighted…
He’s heaving. Once again, he’s lost. Is that good for her, running away? Is it really running, or does she just not want to live where smoke clouded their worlds.
A warm mug is placed before him, a blanket readjusted over his shoulders as the man he fully trusted let out a soft sigh, looking at him with eyes that read, Rest.
Thank you, Yanagi-senpai...
The familiar hot cocoa wafting, the footsteps of Takeru coming and immediately going, it’s all the same. The only thing missing... is her, her with her eyes shining with determination, with will to pursue justice. Her lips that expressed the entire world of her thoughts.... Her laughter, her voice...
...all going further and further away, the glass door shut between them, so close yet so far, until it rolls away, taking her away.
“Ichika…”
“I’m sorry, Mineo-san…”
Her voice is clear, crystal. Ha, she really wouldn’t want him moping around, would she? Hell, she probably decided to leave to try to lift the burden of such a memory from him. Too bad… Too bad her departure is what hurts the most. He’s been able to manage, to get parts of his life back on track. In case… In case she ever comes back, in case she’ll ever want to be alongside him again, he’s got to have things in order.
How many days has it been?
Why did fate decide to be this way? He’d... go to her, but that’s not what she would want, is it?
She didn’t have to give up, she shouldn’t give up.
Going back home, probably going in line with her parents, making it easier on her brother, that’s just like her. He’s getting the texts, the words, the updates, from him. He’s got to get back up, even if... for now... he’s alone.
Sure, he’s got Yanagi. Takeru too, probably. There’s Satake, and the rest of the force. But his partner isn’t here right now. Him, devoted to her promise, to her strength, to what she wanted for justice... even if she isn’t by his side currently, perhaps the tide can change course. Call your spirit! Fight on! Charge yourself up! You deserve it! Against all odds, you... you are a warrior.
Your love is fighting her own battle. She’s like you were. Lost. Afraid. Yet, she’s different as well. Afraid of her own hands, of how her emotions rattled her, blinded her from listening, from her own beliefs. She... didn’t want that happening again. That... must be it.
Even now, he can’t help but trust her and her judgement. It may hurt, but he... can’t let that much go. She opened his eyes... so... why.... why...
Oh, why, is love so painful?
Ah, these are tears. It’s almost as if he’s read a novel of this sort again, detached, but in the moment, and he can’t stop. How pitiful, how messy. He’s really hopeless, but this is still him, the man that’s come to be stronger thanks to her, the man that’s come to love Ichika Hoshino.
Until the day their paths can cross again... until the day this blight upon love is removed, and a new world blossoms anew...
He shouldn’t give up.
That’s... what he’ll repeat to himself, anyway.
{ CYBER SEAWEED ! ( @nyanyazuka )
God, is he feeling lazy, aching limbs, migraine pounding his head.. there was no work that was going to be done today at this rate. So with one arm drooped over the green couch, the other rests on his stomach, he lays down regretting the drinking contest with Sakuragawa… as fun as they were at the time, the aftereffects hit hard. And because the deemed father of the group had left early to work on his own investigations, Takeru didn’t get any kind of remedy to soothe his pains. With dad gone, the only people in the building were Takeru and… Mineo.
That’s when the idea strikes.
Mineo had all kinds of goods and (matcha flavoured) not-so-goods in the pantry. Ramen, pudding, all kinds of stuff, that were readily available to this devilish boy. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for Mineo, however, Takeru was too lazy to even cook them, not himself anyway.
So instead….
He picks himself up, wobbles over to the back room where the victim was laying… and slams his hands on the table. He stands up straight to the best of his abilities, feigning perfect health.
“Oi, Mineo, ramen.” He starts with that, before he realizes just how hungry he was. One packet wasn’t enough, not two, not three… “No scratch that, ramen eating contest.” The words come out without much thought. Besides that, he could eat a horse right now, he was so going to win, but what’s a contest without prizes? “If I win, you become my slave to fetch me doughnuts for life. If you win, I’ll leave your ‘limited edition’ pudding for a week.” What a deal.
“…” Mineo is all too used to the deadly silence that strikes the room whenever Takeru is working, and even now it’s slamming down. Where’s Yanagi to at least hone in the energy and make it more… positive? Of course, Dad… AHEM!! Yanagi-senpai… is not home to balance it out and get things in order now… What luck… But… “..!” All he can do is stare briefly, narrowing his eyes, examining the situation that has befallen his... coworker.
Is this the downfall of Genius Hacker Takeru-kun?! Before he’s even gotten his own TV show, duly titled something along the lines of CYBER: UNDERWATER WEEDING. Though, Mineo is certain that Takeru would be an awful lead of a crime drama series. He’s definitely supporting cast material..! But that’s not the point!
Right, definitely. That seaweed’s dried up! Hung over! How weakly the bitter green withers!
Wait, hold it! He objects to his own actions and turns his attention back to what’s in his hands. What it should be are case files, research, anything that’ll help him further in solving the case he took upon himself. But, it’s not that. No, of course not, but it’s certainly informational. He’d very keep up his reading, but it seems someone has other plans. With such a loud attack, Mineo wonders how Takeru can handle it. It seems like his head hurts or something but, well, nothing ceases a barrage like a proactive counter-measure, and he’s not taking the demands sitting down!
Nay, a hero must not rest when a battle is beginning!
“Gah, now listen, Cyber Seaweed!” His eyes narrow, “I’m not going to - huh?”
This... this is a challenge..! Now, Mineo certainly doesn’t enjoy the idea of being Takeru’s “slave” for life not that he isn’t already forced to do anything similar already but there’s no way, absolutely no way he, Mineo Enomoto, the great, spirited warrior backed by an expertise in ramen consumption, can lose in a contest of guts!
Beside, with his guaranteed win, his precious pudding will be safe and sound, no longer anytime in the next seven days can Takeru steal them away! But now, now, he’s getting ahead of himself! He’s got to conquer the hungry demon that means to cause his fall.
“You’re on. But, heh heh, know this,” Mineo grins, certainty bursting from his very core, “it is you who is truly the fool!”
No, no, it’s probably still you. But that doesn’t matter! Take on Takeru head on, Mineo! Believe, believe in his downfall, for surely it’ll happen somehow, somewhere!
The prizes aren’t even equated, but he doesn’t notice. Standing up straight so he’s above Takeru in structure alone, he tries his best to be intimidating, then... yes, he must prepare, by diving into the ramen stash and moving.
Man, this is so healthy too. What a proud man Yanagi must be, as these two men decide to duke it out through the ways of multiple packs of definitely excellent for the body, especially in over, rapid consumption.
This can’t possibly backfire at all!
