It took more than a little doing to find his new residence.
The foreign environment proved difficult to navigate with no real points of reference. But with a good deal of fidgeting to view the designated address of his room in his Triplicata, and the help of two of the artificial intelligences produced by the GRAIL, he managed to locate the place, a nondescript but functional building. It wasn’t as pretty as his own home had been, but Norman wryly considered the fact that it didn’t have bars over the windows or locks that he could identify on the external doors to be a bonus.
The internal doors all looked virtually identical except for the numbers on them, and the rooms all seemed to be identical widths, by the spacing between them. And not especially spacious, at that. Whatever this GRAIL thing was, it didn’t seem to feel the need for any trifles like living space or decoration -- or maybe the stoic AIs were responsible? Something to take note of, he thought; it would make quite a difference in how things would be operated.
He slowed as the numbers approached the one specified by his Triplicata and drew out the device, attempting to access the key that it supposedly held for his door. The technology was completely foreign to him, a total mystery outside the knowledge of what a computer was. Ray really would be better at figuring this thing out... Sad that his benefactor hadn’t thought to supply him with something a little more familiar. At least if he ended up stuck outside of his designated room, he’d have his sweater to keep him warm.
Not much of a comfort, all things considered.
