beMy OC from @shadowsofhiraeth, Oatstep! The younger medicine cat in Windclan, he was a very nervous and stressed child before being mentored by one of the med cats, Fawnstep (blue cat in this picture). She was very understanding and caring and essentially a mother figure to him, and taught him everything he knew while the other medicine cat, Rustheart (red), didn’t really bother with him and focused on his own sparse family and medicine cat job.
Fawnstep eventually passed and Oatstep became a full medicine cat and was doing well, but recently he’s been stressed again as a scene broke out involving him, Rustheart, Rustheart’s grandson Beepaw and Bee’s rival Adderpaw, that ended in Rustheart yelling and demeaning the two apprentices. Oatstep immediately stepped in to defend and comfort them, and is appalled that Rustheart thinks yelling at children is accepptable in Any situation, especially as Rustheart is a ‘public figure’, being a medicine cat. Rustheart is stubborn though and doesn’t believe he’s in the wrong, and even with Oatstep’s new attempts at confidence and his drive to stand up for the kids and protect them, he can’t really break through to his elder medicine cat.
Rustheart isn’t abusive, far from it, but built up blame and hatred towards him that Oat had from his own apprenticeship and Oat’s urge to be like Fawnstep was for him to the apprentices and cement himself as a medicine cat in Role and Influence, has caused massive tension between the two medicine cats of Windclan, and the apprentices and warriors that have got caught up in it.
