Today I ran into an incredibly obscure reference and I am horribly amused by it. Look at this line:
This is an incidental quote from Yda after she won a sparring match with Hoary Boulder in the Rising Stones, appearing shortly before the start of the quest "Build on the Stone". On a quick look this seems like another "quirky" Yda line riffing on the obvious "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" snowclone, but I couldn't help but do a double take at the very particular phrasing – because I'm pretty sure anyone who ever played through Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire will recognize it as a nod to this scene:
Yda is apparently the prince of Shapier. Checks out. I mean, have you ever seen them both at the same room in the same time?
Of all the old point-and-click games that FFXIV could (and did) throw sneaky nods to, I never expected the Quest for Glory series - and it's honestly delightful. Somebody give Koji Fox (or whomever in the localization team of the time that put it in there) yet another medal.
Obscure Atmospheric Recommendations: Lighthouse Edition
Do you enjoy the mood of dusty lighthouses ( probably haunted by the ornery spirits of previous keepers ), small coastal towns, dark nautical themes, and eldritch maritime entities? If so, these are some recommendations for you.

In Too Deep ( song by Emir Isilay and Carrah Flahive )

I will add more to this reference as I see fit. I would like to add a disclaimer that there is an overlap between certain aspects of this aesthetic and others.
Destroy all monsters.

tagged by @baneschosen thank you so much, I took forever but this was a lot of fun! 💕 I did something similar for Salvadore and Eneas in the past, sooo I picked Rowley this time.

boys be like “i know a place” and then take you to a remote cliff side just before dawn to make sure both of you are burned to a crisp with the rising sun, the pain serving as penance for the people both of you have killed
if charles darwin and his cousin didn’t have a dozen inbred babies then we wouldn’t have had the chronicles of narnia and that means we wouldn’t have had ben barnes and then that means I wouldn’t have existed since ben barnes is my daddy
