@aella-a I'm pretty versatile! Mostly I'd just like a storyline that sucks you in and has an ongoing plot vs something episodic.

@obviouslystiles Okay well. I’ve gone through your list and seen you have a lot I’d already rec, so maybe a lot I’ll have under here you’ve seen.  But I can try, I’m more a character motivated person but, I’ll try to fit ones with good stories too.

This is in no particular order.

I’ll start with the one I’m obsessed with now ‘Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens’ it does have different story arcs, so it’s somewhat episodic ngl but the overarching plot is about the protagonist backstory.  I’ll just throw that out there as an outlier as I feel obligated these day to rec this as it was rather under-rated.  It’s good to follow that up with the light novels if by any remote chance you watch and get into the characters.

Re-zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu -  it’s a isekai anime which isn’t a plus, but a subversion of that trope so it’s pretty interesting.  It has a bit of a harem feel but all the female characters are well written so it’s not so obnoxious.  Lots of twists.  LOTS of twists.

Hikaru no Go - Old school anime with old school animation but it’s a good and rather long involved story about how a boy gets into Igo, the traditional chinese board game.  It has all the great tropes of sports shonen ‘eternal rivals’ etc, covers a number of years so the protagonist starts when he’s like 9 and it finishes when he’s 15 or so.  It also has a supernatural element.  You don’t need to understand the game to watch it.  It’s also got a lot of feels.

Zettai Karen Children - The Unlimited - Hyoubou Kyousuke - it’s a spinoff but you honestly don’t have to see the original to get it, I have never gotten around to it myself.  Mutant superheroes story, anime style.  Also has a great and interesting anti-hero protagonist (he’s actually the villain the series he’s spun off from).

Tiger & Bunny - speaking of superheros, here is quite a popular one.  It’s also very much a buddy cop series with a bit of fanservice thrown in. It’s not episodic but it has arcs.  It’s a fun series.

All Out!!  - Rugby sports shonen with a super genki protagonist.  It’s got a large cast and they are all pretty fun.  It’s a sports shonen, and basically expect everything you would expect from any team sports shonen.

I have some others but I think this might be a start.  Some of the other stuff I really like is pretty personal and wasn’t exactly the best story ever, but I’m a character fan so I tolerate shitty stories if the characters are interesting or who  I Iove.  If you like shojos I have a few of those I like, but I get the feeling shojos might not be your thing ;)

What is Alpha Couple?

They’re the married couple that the band The Mountain Goats writes about, notably in the album Tallahassee, but also in any other song with ‘Alpha’ in the title and a few others confirmed.

Miserable self-destructive alcoholics who love and hate each other. I highly highly recommend Tallahassee.
