jj i actually think is pretty religious. he remembers bible quotes, we see him pray over his food in s4 like yeah he went to bible study. prob prayed a lot for comfort as a kid
pope is religious in the way most black gen z’ers are like he says hes a man of science but his parents dont care hes going to church on sunday. may play a random gospel song but a kirk franklin one 😭 very superstitious, prob believes god is real but isnt doing anything in the world anymore the chips are falling where they may

barry is probably extremely religious given how he felt abt burning the cross. maybe the only catholic if you go by him being ambiguously brown, still may be catholic if you view him as havin italian ancestry like nick does but i think barry for all his amoral qualities does fear going to hell
yes! the contraception part makes so much sense, there’s limited (if anything, no) access to abortions + birth control. it’d be like shameless almost, luke would have multiple kids he probably has no clue about

but i could see pope being an older sibling but he was planned and the younger one wasnt you know. popes gets the most financial and education backing. but the younger sibling is basically max russo they will be running the shop
i feel like John b being the lead is due to him being written as “white and somewhat levelheaded”. in theory, similar to your rewrite, pope should be the lead since what they’re originally hunting for belongs to the heywards. but bc pope is black and characterized as “awkward and nerdy”, they forgoes him being the lead.
i think pope grew into his own in ways the pates never really foresaw which i think is common when writing literally anything so thats why its shifted to him taking the lead and tbh i dont mind john b starting out that way bc he does have charismatic unifying qualities that lead the others to following his lead like even in the rewrite popes the main protagonist but hes not the leader of his friends i think he needs to grow into it! sucks nobody wants to talk abt how hes able to do so!
Peace and love to John B, Cleo, Kie and Sarah, but I do fully agree that the three points of the triangle are Pope, JJ and Rafe.
everything is literally about them in every way and again i love all the other characters and what they have to offer (at least in theory if the show were good) but the core story is kinda about those three and i think even the pates realized that bc pope has pretty much become the leader of the pogues
