It doesn't hurt, Dani thinks, not to be touched. Not in the way that some things hurt. But it aches.

Every time his opponent's friends or family congratulate them on a win or commend their effort on a loss, it aches. Every time the other trainers at the Pokémon Center fall asleep together and he's left alone, it aches. Every time he loses out on just the tiniest bit of comfort, it aches.

It aches in his stomach and his chest and his throat and sometimes he has to sit down and take deeper breaths to stop himself from crying.

But it doesn't hurt.

He has Sneasler and the others, anyway. Even if it's not the same. It should be more than enough to make up. He should be over it by now.
