UNreasonably excited by rhidian taking a paladin level next level-up!!! they're gonna take the oath of the ancients because it's narratively what fits them

i've had the paladin oath in my sights for A While. i didn't want to take it too early because i think it makes sense that it takes a while. in the meantime, i've been thinking about which god would take them under their wing and i finally had the perfect set-up earlier, after we went to meet mystra...

there are different altars and i read what they had to say about the deities, plus there's the altar representing all the gods you can pray to. while looking through them, i found the perfect one—

lathander, god of vitality, hope and beginnings.... that is SO rhidian. hoping to set out being their own, new self. to be rid of bhaal, to be able to exist despite bhaal—whatever the case, they want to be their own self. start anew!

rhidian isn't really a believer or devout, but they know the gods exist (duh) and since they are currently on a path that aligns with what lathander reigns over/stands for, they decided there's no harm in praying and making an offering

game mechanically u have to give 3k gold to get the blessing but in MY headcanon they didn't give That much, they rather gave some symbolic offering. lathander was SO intrigued by the bhaalspawn guy praying and making a tribute to him that he decided to bless them

that's also how lathander takes notice of rhidian, the first step of rhidian later on taking the oath under him

(i know that game mechanically, you can't choose the actual deity you make the oath to, but narratively i wanted to have that sorted out)
