I was going to wait to start posting Arthel x Freddie art until I had their first meeting rewritten/updated to post that piece first, butttt that probably won't happen for a while, I'm gonna aim for June on that.
So I'm going to start now instead! I just got this piece back today from Tesito on VGen!

Second Freddie and Arthel art! For those who don't remember or didn't see, I spent most of April slightly obsessed with the charity performance of the musical Time that Freddie performed at in 1988 as his last live performance (you can find an audio recording of all bar, I believe, one song here). I ofc went about writing something for it with what little information I could find (unfortunately having to write out the ice cream incident™ bc I cannot figure out the logistics of it) and decided I wanted to get art to go along with it. And I fell completely and utterly in love with Hynder's art style (you will probably be seeing more of Arthel by it, I genuinely love its art) so... here it is! Alongside the scene it's inspired by under the read more! (TW for vague mentions of unnamed health issues and the toll that keeping them secret takes)
The rest of their conversation continued nicely; Arthel was asked about the album he was currently in the middle of recording, Freddie got to gush about working with Montserrat and gave a vague answer about the slowly progressing Queen album, Cliff had no plans in the works for after Time's closure. They stuck to safe topics, and if Cliff had noticed anything off in the run-up to the night, he showed no sign of it. To Arthel's immense relief.
However, the rest of the night did not go as smoothly.
Touring came up. Queen's extended hiatus came up. The articles about his health came up. It was exactly what Arthel had feared would happen, and it was setting Freddie on edge, his guard was up.
Arthel found himself butting into these conversations, something he would never normally do; talking about his time in the studio, his own tour plans once his album released, anything to divert from Freddie's discomfort and the reasons and defences that fell on ears that would rather they be excuses to cover up something scandalous. Arthel also kept Freddie close to his side with an arm around his waist wherever they went, wishing he could enjoy the contact without his protective instincts getting in the way.
