oc references and that mystery man vincent
watch me go on about one of my ocs brah
i feel like my oc iris was partly born from my anxieties about getting older and eventually not going to have my maman around to take care of me, and since iris is in the 1800s she wouldnt have as much of the choice of living for herself and taking care of herself, instead being pressured to get married to some guy (i was also watching a movie adaptation of pride and prejudice at the time lol). she's also been taught since she was young to really romanticize (no pun intended) the concept of romantic love. she gets married to a sailor but then she has to say goodbye to all of her family and friends and her home country to go overseas to live where this guy does, but then he's not even there half the time because he's a freaking sailor. she also wants someone who really understands her, and as interesting as she found this guy for how many stories he had and how well-traveled he was, he didnt really GET her or really respect her as a human being. she eventually gets sick of this guy, but what else is there?
cue her eventually getting killed by a sea monster in some way. maybe she took a little boat out on the water and it got her and sunk her boat. was it really a sea monster? was it a crashing wave? too strong of a current? did it pull her out to sea before pulling her under? did she go out too far and feel like she could make it home? if she went and went and went so far out, so far that the shores and cities and all the little people of that alien country could all be left behind her. to be met with the crushing weight of reality, of the wave, of the current, of the monster. what kind of monster would take a girl from her family? to dash the opportunity of ever growing into a woman?
i just found this drawing in my gallery that i made a while ago of my oc iris omg i love her 🥹🥹🥹
