Nicknames: none ("Diamant" is actually the name he chooses partway through the story - his name at introduction is totally different.)

A Song I Associate With Them: Danse Bacchanale - Camille Saint-Saëns

3 Important Relationships: (1) Vienne - Vienne is his older sister and the manager of the convenience store under their apartment. She raised him after his mother passed. They have difficulty communicating with one another and always have - they both have very strong personalities and they tend to clash quite a bit. Vienne tends to baby him more than he'd like. (2) Chancillon - Can't really elaborate here, but Chancillon taught him to speak. Chancillon taught him most of what he knows about geography, politics, history, etc. At his introduction, he is deeply obsessed with the idea of Chancillon and is desperate to earn his favour. (3) Kii - Diamant and Kii have a VERY difficult relationship. Because they both have very strong convictions, they clash at any opportunity, and are very contrary to one another. Diamant does not see his own selfishness until Kii reflects it.

2 Fears: (1) losing sight of his ultimate goal, and (2) never escaping who he used to be.

1 Element of Their Backstory: Diamant lived on an island territory controlled by the Union and unknown to most. He's been isolated from the rest of the world except for his connection to it through Chancillon - Chancillon shaped his entire worldview, his entire understanding of the world, and his understanding of history and politics.

A Song I Associate With Them: Мышка - Чиж и Ко

3 Important Relationships: (1) Volker - Volker was Miжné's adoptive father from the age of six onward. Volker was one of the few Nors at the time that spoke fluent Souan, and so was able to communicate with Miжné and ultimately teach him to understand Nor (although Miжné still cannot speak it well, he can communicate via Nor sign language). He was very involved in Miжné's life and was deeply protective of him until his health began to falter when Miжné was a teenager, and he ultimately died in Miжné's late teens. (2) Sanya - Sanya and Miжné were married for several years in their early twenties. Sanya was the daughter of the then-Queen of Nor and was involved with the council in der Hauptstadt as a teenager assisting council members and keeping records. She and Miжné met when they were kids and after a brief period of miscommunication that led to some tension, they became friends. She and Miжné were inseparable when Volker's health began to fail and when Miжné began to work toward retiring from the military after Volker's death. She died in their mid-twenties. (3) Cav - Cav is one of Miжné's adopted sons. Miжné adopted Cav when he was a baby and doted on him more than he did Vaao or Nikon. He protected Cav from his biological father, tried to shelter him from the darkness of military life in der Hauptstadt, and always, Always forgave him and welcomed him home with open arms, no matter how serious his misgivings. When Cav ran away from Nor with much of Miжné's savings, Miжné fell into a deep bout of depression he never fully recovered from.

2 Fears: (1) being abandoned, particularly by his sons, and (2) the concept of immortality.

1 Element of Their Backstory: Miжné lost his right eye in an accident when he was very young, but regrew it entirely overnight after Volker died. It grew back milky and blind but present just the same.

G: Gervaise

Gender: female

A Song I Associate With Them: Hard Times - Paramore

3 Important Relationships: (1) Gérard - Gérard is her mate. She and Gérard met when they were kids and were often assigned to the same foraging group. She and Gérard had difficulty getting along as kids because Gérard is very set in his ways and Gervaise very prone to being contrary, but eventually they began to see eye-to-eye. (2) Yves - Yves is Gérard's father, but Gervaise and Yves have had a very strained relationship since Gérard and she mated. Yves has always been very protective of Gérard and very particular about what he can and can't do and be, and mating with a scout was out of the question. She has had to work through Yves's very vocal disapproval for upwards of twenty years and still has a difficult relationship with him. She is one of the only people who is unafraid to call him out on his shit and doesn't handle him with kid gloves just because he can't take what he deals. (3) Holland - Holland is her and Gérard's adopted son. Holland idolises Gervaise, and she is the only person who can really see his drive and his desperation for acceptance. She has always been very strict with him, especially when it comes to his relationship with Gérard and his duties as a scout-in-training, and has never hesitated to enforce boundaries with him - something he can handily intimidate most people out of doing.

2 Fears: (1) Losing Holland or Gérard, and (2) being unable to continue work as a scout.

1 Element of Their Backstory: Gervaise is infertile. In Alwillon society, fertility is paramount - one's social standing is dictated by occupation and the amount of kits they have. She and Gérard have no kits of their own, which disappoints Yves more than anything.
