Poison Lore: Unicorn Horns The theme for the spring poisoner’s collection is Lore. Anti-poisons were in high demand by royalty, and there were various mystical charms to choose from. The most coveted being the Unicorn horn. The horn from the rarest of creatures would go for a king’s ransom. Renowned for its ability to neutralize poisons. Queen Elizabeth I paid handsomely for her spiral unicorn horn and unicorn goblet. Thrones, staves and other regalia have been crafted from this magical material. Unicorn horns or alicorn were actually the tusks of the Narwhal an Arctic whale. The tusk is a sensory organ that can grow up to 9 feet. It’s association with unicorns likely began with Viking traders who would have first discovered them. While the collection won’t have Narwhal tusks I have curated a number of other apotropaic poison charms. Image: The Danny Jewel.
