Born in Busan, South Korea but raised in Dallas, Eun-Ki has always been a city boy at heart. Growing up he loved the hustle and bustle of Dallas City. There was always something going on, somewhere to be a something to do. It was perfect for him. With three younger daughters his parents had more than enough on their plate and Eun-Ki took it upon himself to learn how to fend for himself so they had less to worry about. Assuming the typical role of the older eldest sibling he was fiercely protective of his younger siblings. By anyone’s standards his early life was perfectly normal. He went to public school, graduated with good enough grades to get him a decent college scholarship and graduated ready to join the workforce and get a job.
After bouncing around majors, no one in his family knew what he intended to do with his life, but it was still a shock to them when he decided to join the New York Police Department. Following orders had never been something Eun-Ki excelled at and his family jokingly placed bets on how long he would last before quitting to follow another career. Surprising everyone he stuck with the path he had chosen, determined to prove everyone wrong and take on a career path that would help others. Not long after he took a position in FEMA reservists for emergency relief as well. Work with FEMA was difficult. Nothing that had occurred in his life had prepared him for the disaster situations he was sent in to. However, none of the situations he had faced were anything like the horror that erupted during the outbreak.
Rumours of a virus in New York City had spread around his unit as soon as they got their new assignment. Each whisper was worse than the last, the stories getting more and more horrifying as they travelled. Despite being known of his motor mouth Eun stayed quiet for the first time in his life. Instead of passing on the rumours he listened, silently hoping that they would be false. When they arrived in New York it immediately became clear that none of the stories had managed to fully capture the horror of what had unfolded. Eun-Ki struggled to believe what was occurring right before his eyes. People were turning into monster. The group was given weapons and told to use any means necessary to stop the infected. In order to save lives he was forced to kill. Throughout the first week the group set up relief areas, going out and finding as many survivors as possible. Each day brought in fewer survivors.
Communication between with Washington fell apart as the virus spread and decimated the population in the United States. With no more orders coming many left the unit in a desperate attempt to get back to their families. A horde of undead attacked the safe zone that had been created, forcing Eun and the other survivors to flee. As tempted as he was to leave the group and try and return home, he knew there was little chance of making it all the way across the United States back to Dallas. Instead he hope that a cure would be developed soon and that his family had been able to protect themselves from the infection. Eun-Ki did what he could to keep the groups spirits up knowing that losing hope would be the worst thing for them. But no matter what he did, he couldn't stop their group from losing people. The group’s makeshift camp was attacked, taking the lives of most of the survivors. With no supplies Eun wandered with the three people, desperately searching for anyone else or a place they could make a safe home. One after another the others were lost, leaving Eun-Ki completely on his own.
But just as he was about to lose hope he stumbled upon a relatively newly formed group known as Barton Hollow. They didn’t have much, just few sandbags set up as makeshift walls. Eun-Ki decided that sticking with them would be better than taking his chances on his own. Although offered a spot as a guard due to his background, Eun politely declined - he had seen enough bloodshed for one lifetime - opting to work alongside Stanley instead behind the safety of the wall.
From a young age Eun’s overly energetic personality coupled with a lack of forethought behind his actions would get him into trouble. But normally it was nothing he couldn't fix with a bright grin and a joke making any person forget why they had been angry at him in the first place. His family always joked his skill for getting himself out of trouble made him perfect for politics. As Eun-Ki got older he somewhat learned to reign in his impulsiveness.
However, the habit could never be completely repressed and tough situations still have him bursting into action without consideration of his own well-being. Long before the outbreak he used humour as a crutch, because how could someone tell when something’s wrong if you’re constantly joking and hiding the truth behind sarcastic quips? Losing all of his family and friends has only made it worse. They've all lost people, he doesn't see any point in giving someone a reason to worry about him. So he hides anything and everything that’s bothering him behind the same smile that gets him out of trouble.
