A Taste of Something Familiar

There was silence for a moment, before an enthusiastic laugh came through the radio they used for communication. Reaper was stood on a roof, red eyes peering down from behind the mask. Sombra had told him to stay back, that she could handle the enemy. The wraith didn’t doubt her, but she was wasting time.

The silence continued for another few minutes, his black leather coat fluttering in the breeze while he simply stood still, relishing in the lack of noise, until eventually, Sombra’s voice filtered through again and brought him back to reality.

{ “ Hey, Gabe. Seems like our gatito ran off somewhere my translocators can’t reach. I hacked him, thinking he’d crumble up like omnics do but turns out he may be more human than I thought. ” }

Reaper didn’t answer instantly, instead he shadow stepped down to where the hacker currently was before gracing her with an answer.

“ … Fine, where did he go? ” His gaze followed the direction she pointed at until he saw a broken window on the top floor of the building adjacent to them.

“ Maybe if you didn’t play around so much, you’d actually manage to do it yourself. ”

“ Aw, Gabe. It’s in my nature to play, plus now you get some action too! ”

Reaper rolled his eyes and let out a sigh but turned into a mass of nanites to effectively scale the building, reforming only once he’d reached his destination.

“ See if you can get any information on who we’re dealing with. ”

{ “ Who do you think I am? I’ll fish something up in no time, Gabrielito. ” }

Ignoring the nickname, he took a step inside once the line went quiet, crimson orbs scanning his surroundings before approaching the cyborg on the floor. He hadn’t formed his guns yet -- Reaper didn’t know why but he was curious who this person was, considering the tug of familiarity in his gut the closer he got to the wounded man.

“ You’re not getting out of here, so you might as well cooperate. ” The wraith spoke with a rough and slightly garbled voice – ‘ perks ’ of being a giant mass of nanites – that only became more obvious when he raised his voice.

           “You have to make a wish.” Genji passed the steaming mug over and settled down beside Arcade, crossing his legs at his ankles and wrapping his hands around his own mug. The air was a little chilly but ever since the clean up had started, Genji had come to like this little area. The crumbling walls that he had partly been responsible for were almost a fond memory as they settled among the bricks. Genji had removed his faceplate for ease and took a sip before he glanced up.

     The wide open sky and bright splatter of stars above them was beautiful, easy t forget how war torn the land underneath was. It reminded him of a better time, when he had not been himself but he had been with family. Sometimes it was hard to separate the two. Genji took a sip and leaned back, eyes a little hooded as he regarded his… well, it was hard to classify Arcade. Friend didn’t feel strong enough, perhaps crush was better.

           “It is the rules, when the stars are out like this you have to make a wish.”

“I do?” Arcade’s attention diverted from the point he’d been considering in the distance, glancing over with ease towards the cyborg as he finally rejoined him at their seating in the rubble. Reaching out he accepted the mug, a quiet thanks on his lips, appreciative of the warmth it did provide momentarily to his hands. His jacket might cut some of the chill that threatened to loom in, but not nearly all of it.

Genji’s people had come and had gone, and yet for whatever reason the other man had chosen to remain. To help with the clean-up efforts maybe - the researcher didn’t ask, not really, so he could only hazard guesses at best. Even Mocha was getting used to him - the dog had been hostile and standoffish at best to the man at first, but now she was definitely more accepting of his presence around.

“It’s a beautiful night... nice to see the sky without clouds for a change.” Arcade took a sip of the mug’s contents, offering a happy sound of pleasure from both the warmth and the taste. “Is there something in particular I have to wish for? Or can it be anything?” Genji seemed to know the rules after all!

He liked the cyborg well enough of course - they had definitely grown closer he’d say, since the night of that Omnic attack that had damaged such a significant portion of this small city. They clicked well together, which was something that just didn’t seem to happen very often when it came to the blond. It was a nice feeling.

     A sliding shadow upon the floor, a bleeding of the walls in black ink. It pools and gathers like a scene from a nightmare into a solid form that doesn’t break the illusion of horror. The wraith without his mask is still a sight to stop breath and still hearts, the visage of a creature that longs to be a man. It is this beast that comes forward for him, moving without sound until the younger is within arm’s reach.

     A tentative lift of hands, lingering within the space between them until they grow bolder, cupping at the face of a hard fought life with eyes that still maintain a delicate spark of confidence, of understanding. Blackened claws brush over the high of Genji’s cheeks, absorbing the way the flesh feels against the unyielding darkness that is his own.

     “Don’t speak.” A command as much as it is a warning or a plea. Allow this fleeting moment to go without any further words lest it be the last of it at all. As many teeth shift and retract, a twitch of open wounds belaying the pain that burns inside to contain the monster he believes he is.

     Ashen; pale and chapped.

     Human.

     Safe.

     Breaching of space, pressing cool lips to those presented before him, chaste in pressure before there’s no sign of harm or flinching wariness. Death’s kiss can end so many but for this moment, he simply savors. An act of gentleness in the dead of the night.

     It ends just as the shadows wane. Gone within a sweeping trail of vapors that still linger upon his lips.

     “What do we have here?" Omnic parts sold so incredibely well that he’d be foolish not to be participating in that trend too. He had to cover his own expenses somehow after all, and big treasures were rare. Big hunts were rarely worth it either, he had no care for some meager gil in exchange for his wellbeing. “Looks like you’re still alive.”

    Balthier watched the man laying on the ground before him closely, and nudged his shoulder with the tip of his shoe. “You want to get found by sky pirates, is that it? All you’re missing is the ‘steal me’ sign on your chest, and your body on a silver plate.” He tried to estimate how much he could sell that lovely visor for. Entirely unscratched, and of such a unique design. “Well, if you want to give yourself to me so badly, I won’t decline that lovely offer.”

            Small Starter~

    "Ya' know..."     Glancing up from the revolver he was presently cleaning, whiskey-hued eyes studied the young Shimada for a long moment before he cocked his head to one side. "As much as I ain't gonna complain about your state of mostly undressed, I think you should probably put a little bit more on." Keen eyes scrawled slowly down along the other's cybernetically stabilized... Enhanced? Torso before working their way back up to Genji's eyes. Something deeply possessive and feral flashed within those dark eyes.     "Just for your safety, of course. No other reason at all."     His tongue guided the cigar pressed between his lips from one side of his mouth to the other casually before dropping his gaze back down to the gun between his fingers. "You can borrow my... Ah hell, what did Gabe call it? Cape-y, serape thing if you'd like."

It had been a while now, since the Elders had started reconditioning the Clan’s heir without anyone other than them noticing this. It was subtle, really. Nothing was there to be noticed safe for Hanzo’s strange behavior every now && then. Then again, everyone had lesser days so that went by without much suspicion.

Although Hanzo did not know what was happening, he did suspect things would not stay the way they were for long. Confided in a friend of his that the Shimada Clan’s elders knew nothing about && requested for him to keep an eye on his brother && if things were to get bad, get him out as soon as possible.

He had nightmares these last few weeks, staying awake until Gods know how late in the night. The only nights he seemed to actually get a decent amount of sleep in were those he spent with Genji. Not that he’d ever speak of that to his brother.

Hanzo extended his hand towards Genji, fingers ghosting over his jawline oh-so gently. He stayed quiet for a few moments, merely basking in the moment of just BEING with the other before a small sigh interrupted it.

“ The Elders do not like me spending so much time by your side. ”

Genji Shimada’s disappearance was cause for concern. Not only was he part of Overwatch and they cared for him, but his captors were omnic-hating extremists convinced Genji was a new omnic built to infiltrate human society. Past that they didn’t know, due to the only transmission they received being a mess of threats towards the fledgling organization.

Winston had argued too large an operation and they might kill Genji when they caught wind of it. Too small and everyone might end up dead.

Jack was already on a transport by the time they had started to talk about strategy. The message he left let them know he and Genji would be back soon. He was going to bring Genji back. He didn’t know how they'd gotten their hands on the man, but they had better hope Genji was unharmed for their sakes.

He shifted in the transport, the silent pilot flying them to the last destination Genji had been tracked. Jack appreciated the silence and the way the man hadn’t asked questions when Jack had told him to gear up and ready himself to head out.

An hour later he was at a building. A warehouse that looked like every Los Muertos compound he’d broken into when he was still working in Dorado. Slurs and spray painted warnings littered the building. He was used to working off nothing, and these people were amateurs in comparison to the more organized Los Muertos. Finding them wasn’t hard.

He  backed up a step and bound up the side of the building, hand snaring the corner of the roof and pulling himself up and onto it. A large ventilation pipe stuck out of the rooftop, and there was a trap door that led into the building. Removing his pistol, he shot the latch and slipped inside, re-holstering it and shifting the weight of the pulse rifle on his back. Time to find the missing cyborg.
