all of his belongings packed into a single duffle bag, jack closes the door behind him. one thud is followed by another and he looks up to see irene leaving her room. it’s not entirely unwelcomed. in fact, he would’ve liked to say goodbye before he left, and this allows him the opportunity without it being weird. “ are you off? ” he asks, lifting his gaze to meet hers, as coolly as possible.
