10. greatest regret?

There are so many regrets that Severus has.  To narrow it down to simply one would be difficult.  He regrets not being a better son to his mother.  There were a lot of times that he blamed her for things that he shouldn’t have.  As a child your parents are supposed to be the ones to make difficult decisions and she never was able to make them when it came to his father and he resented her terribly for it.  In the end he became very hateful towards her.  

The truth is that the way he handled the entire situation with Lily was the biggest regret that he had.  If Severus had dealt with the pain of rejection better, had been able to somehow compartmentalize the fact that she had chose to be with the one person that he despised more than anything on the planet there was always a chance that maybe the two could have salvaged some sort of friendship.  Before everything else they did have that.  In the end though Severus went with hate and anger instead.  The truth was that it probably did somehow save him some pain.  The two would have never truly been able to maintain any sort of friendship while she was with James.  The damage between the two of them was so deep that even to this day Severus cringes at the thought of Potter and his friends.

Right now at this very moment everything in Severus’ life is a lie.  There is not one aspect of it that is a complete truth.  

14. greatest fear(s)?

That regardless of what happens there’s nothing that they would ever be able to do to redeem the wrongs that have been committed.  On some level they know that they’ve done so many things that are wrong, Severus is sure that they’re going to do so much more before the light at the end of the tunnel.  However, underneath all of the horrible mess that they are there is still that part of them that is a decent person and wants what’s best for people.  That’s what they want to be remembered for, not the person that they’ve slowly started to become.
