They’ve just escaped from the prison, dead and incapacitated guards littering the halls behind them. Allison and Stiles had given them a choice, to stop fighting them and let them go, or take their chances. It hadn’t gone well for those that had tried to stop them anyway.

The Code had been drilled into them, we hunt those who hunt us, but when they’d been sent after kids, barely even preteens — well, finding them someone to help instead of killing them had seemed like the right thing to do. The eight months of jail after, though, had sucked. Interrogators in wartorn hellholes could take lessons from the hunters. Though on the plus side it had been much more psychological damage than any physical - he still had all his limbs attached and so did Allison. Small mercies. They hadn’t wanted to damage two of their best permanently when they might have been able to turn them back to the Code.

He looked over at her, driving the Jeep into the small town. "Beacon Hills," he said, grinning sardonically at her. "Small town. Good place to disappear for awhile, you think?"
