The Impact of Trauma
No one walks away from trauma unscathed and there is still a stigma around trauma and mental health. We can be troubled by our past, troubled by our present. Where we carry trauma, it will continue to impact our life and our relationships.
As a child I also dealt with unexplained anger, irritabilities, sleeplessness, anxiety. I continued to grow up with those things. We have all been affected and gone through our own trauma in the pandemic.
Choosing to go into therapy
Going into therapy isn’t as scary as it sounds, and it can have a positive impact on us, in terms of how we view ourselves around our experiences with trauma, how we view family, how we view the world, and how we deal with issues around trauma, particularly in our growing up years.
We may look at what we have and feel guilty because we have more than others, but when it comes to trauma, our experiences may be different but we will all struggle through trauma. Although mental or emotional struggles are universal, we may reflect different mental or emotional struggles.
Trauma can have lasting effects
But the world is changed, and trauma can have lasting effects. I have learned so much about myself through the process. Being able to connect with myself on a deeper level through my writing has made me more confident, trusting of myself. I know who I am for the first time. It has also made me more trusting in my abilities.
It is important to detach from our experiences. Detaching from our past can open the door on new possibilities. When I am having a down day, instead of spiraling and catastrophising into a dark place, I am able to place my issues better and deal with those.

[ OFF HELICARRIER: ok to be honest, i know close to nothing about the character asides from what i read on your ( perfectly explicit ) bio but the story alone broke my heart. and your writing is so wonderful, they way you write down such a character with a background as devastating as hers is just beautiful. so full of feels and just amazing ?? — i was so reluctant to follow at first because i had no idea nor a clu about who she was ?? but i’m so glad i did because you’re amazing and having you on my dash is a blessing, more so now that we have a thing going. just perfect ! ]
