LOCATION: the docks

While he had known that it would be a different lifestyle, he hadn’t been completely prepared for the shift from city life to a small town. While Saint Bayrak had travelled often for work, it mostly consisted of hopping from city to city within Europe. As he walked along the docks at one in the morning, the streets empty, he realized that Crescent Harbor seemed to be a different beast altogether. He wasn’t sure he could even recall a time he was able to hear his own breathing over the noises of society around him. Yet, as his steps wore on, the only sign of life that accompanied him was the wind gliding over the waters. It was eerie rather than serene, and a part of him was tense, ready for any of the shadows to jump out at him.

After passing a couple more streetlights, his stride stilled at the sight of a woman sitting at a bench. Of course, he could have simply passed by — it wasn’t in his nature to approach strangers. But curiosity and boredom won out, and Saint stopped a couple feet away from her, keeping his distance for propriety, as well as to avoid frightening her. He had two sisters, after all. “On a scale of one to ten, how likely is it for me to get kicked in the shin for approaching a woman sitting alone on a bench at night?” he asked, shooting her a lopsided smile. And then, because he did enjoy irony, “I should also add that I can’t say I have never killed a man.”
