Would a 5 gallon tank with a secure mesh lid be appropriate for a greenbottle blue tarantula? I think the base dimensions are 12"x 6" I've been teetering on the idea of a tarantula for a little while now, finally researched a couple different species, and decided that even though they're skittish, GBBs are def what I'm most interested in

That sounds like a good size for a GBB. They like to burrow, so you’ll want to put about 4”-6” of substrate (preferably peat moss or vermiculite mix) to allow them to do that. I don’t think you’d have too many problems with having a mesh lid, as they don’t climb too much.

Most people would say yes, personally I like a bit more floor space for a burrower that size! Go for a 10 gallon or something of equivalent floor space for an adult. If we're talking 3-5" juvie then you're fine with the 5gal until he/she gets bigger!

I just went out and got myself a cute little leopard gecko baby today, BUT, (s)he has previously lost and regenerated his/her tail. It looks normal, proportionate with the body, it's just smooth instead of lumpy. Is it likely for him/her to have a pretty much normal tail since it was lost and regrown at such a young age? Or will (s)he likely have a stumpy tail?

Alright... I don't have much experience with tail loss in geckos, I've only read about it. So I might not be very knowledgeable about this. To a follower who has experienced this- feel free to reblog and answer yourself! I'll reblog helpful replies so that ohails can see them!

I'll try to answer your question, I'm pretty sure that if it regrew looking normal, it'll probably continue to look normal unless it comes off again?

How do I make my tank less humid? I live in Florida, so it's just naturally humid. My tanks humidity is at 60 and it should be down to about 40

That's a toughie, I'd try directing a fan at the tank, or turning on the AC if you have one. Those two things always manage to dry out my tanks pretty fast.

This is normal! Regrown tails will look kinda fat and smooth.

How big is your shrimp tank? I'm interested in doing one

I actually don't have one up and running yet. Life is hectic over here. It's gonna be about 2 or 2.5 gallons HOWEVER I strongly recommend that you do at least 5 gallons. Obviously it's easier to heat, and they'll breed more readily in a larger space.

What's a good substrate for a plant only tank? And what are good plants to stock a 1 gal tank with?

hmmm there are several substrates i would recommend:

active-flora is currently all the rage on plantedtank forum

ADA Amazonia is a classic choice / the Aqua Soil line in general is a good one

SeaChem flourite is another good one, theyve just come out with a sand/very fine grain product as well

and ofc eco-complete, though i suggest the eco-complete fine grain black, (the package does not say this, eco-complete has 3 diff colors but theyre all under the same SKU) because imo my plants have an easier time rooting in it. i have eco-complete right now & i'm not impressed/frustrated with it, both aesthetically & how my plants are liking it, and I'll be capping it w/ flourite & switching to active-flora with my others.

as for plants.... go wild really,,,, here are some nice small suggestions tho;

anumbias nana petite

crypts of any kind really, though they do grow fast

buce if you want to give it a try

dwarf hairgrass

riccia

lindernia

rotala sp. 'mini butterfly 1' (or 2, tho these both need high light)

bacopa

moss

pretty much any kind of carpeting plant/small stem plant or small rooted plant, it really does depend on what your lighting is & if you want to use ferts/EI dosing/etc. C:

K so for live plants in a betta tank, is there a fertilizer I could use as substrate? Or lay down a layer of fertilizer that's 2-3 inches thick and lay an inch thick layer of sand on top of it? Or do I just use root tabs? I have swords, some kind of grassy plant that seems pretty durable and grows seemingly well, and anubias

technically yes, usually it's referred to as "dirting" a tank but it's really really messy and imho too much effort, if you are looking for a substrate i would recommend flourite or active-flora, eco-complete also works but tbh the last two bags i got i havent been impressed with at all :/

if youve already got substrate down, the flourish root tabs work well~ the swords are heavy root feeders so either root tabs/plant substrate is needed C:
