Between the idle banter of the few other patrons around them and the absolutely exhausting venture they had, he can be forgiven for seeming in a world of his own. Their newly shared contractual obligations did make it a little hard to tell fantasy from reality these days, anyway . . . “ You know, when we were younger, I always thought it was kind of like you were ... ” He falls back into the booth with a dramatic sigh, waving his hand in a dismissive gesture, more exhausted of himself than his partner. Trying to put his feelings into words was never something he was good at, it's no easier now when he has more to think about. “ Mi ángel de la guarda, you always showed up when I needed you, when we were kids. It’s like you had some kind of sixth sense for it, whenever I was about to get into some serious shit; you always pulled me right out of it, no matter what. You didn’t hesitate at all. Shaking his head, he leans back forward; more relaxed. The more he rambles, it seems, the more he starts to unwind; whatever anxiety he might have had melting away as he speaks. “ What I’m getting at is ... it’s kinda nice, getting to save you, sometimes. ” His countenance slowly starts to soften, leaning his cheek into the palm of his hand as he stares across the table at the other man. They've had some absolutely crazy adventures together—far before Milo had dived headfirst into this unknown fantasy life they both now found themselves intertwined in. It made sense, in the moment: and what once was a terrifying memory become one to look back on fondly. It all felt so storybook, in the end, maybe this was their happy ending. He isn't embarrassed to admit his heart thrills at the thought of a life together. If Avree catches his heart racing, so be it; he can take a few playful remarks no sweat. “ I don’t regret it; getting to fight together with you. If that means I can help you too. ”
