A bit of a base breaking character - people either say "why introduce this guy so late in the books, total padding" or "why wait so long to introduce this guy, I want more". I'm firmly in the latter camp, I love me some sad bitter old gay romantics. He's firmly in the I love him as a character not as a person category, but I really love him as a character. Plus I think the argument that all of the young griff storyline is just padding and should be cut is pretty firmly disproven by the mess the show ended up in when it did just that.
This is a mini I spotted and loved for the kind of crusader vibe, which feels very apropos for the exiled knight. His skin tone I wanted to go for that slightly leathery look that older white people get when they move to sunny countries and have been sun burned so often for so long that they're basically cured. His hair is described with surprising detail, something about how his beard is red going to grey, while his hair is grey with streaks of red. I also wanted to include some bits of blue from his Old Griff disguise. His shield is one of the many Blackfyre visual hints I'll be including for team Griff. Finally, those Griffins are probably the best freehand I've ever done.
