“I see most of your injuries have been taken care off.” Dheginsea comments, sitting down on a nearby crate and allowing that faulty leg of his some rest. He is aware that Nils has not been doing too well since what has occurred at the bridge. Watching him wander about bunker. Even as he had flown the two boys to safety, there was something more to.. this.
But Dheginsea is not here to bring comfort to Nils at this moment or ask him what is wrong. No, he’s here for answers.
Dheginsea raises one hand, a gesture to tell Nils to stop talking. After he would let the boy talk, but right now Dheginsea needed to know two things.
“You should not be able of casting beorc magic.” He says it not as a point of discussion, but as a fact. Cold and harsh. “And why did you not transform?”
Beorc weapons are one thing, but their magic is another. And that magic had been ice. Just ice, for Dheginsea does not recall any sudden change in the wind nor swirls of gust. He does not see any tome on Nils either..
Ice… a foreign magic that is too close in trespassing one of the Goddesses domain; water.
“Sir Dheginsea!” Nils started with relief as he saw the large man. Despite his massive frame, he was surprisingly hard to find.. But even with his injuries, the boy couldn’t help but smile upon seeing him. “It’s a relief to see you. I lost track of you after I fell.. I was really worried, but I’m glad to-!“
Then the man raised his hand, the intent coming through loud and clear. “Oh. Sorry..” He sheepishly said. At first he thought maybe he was in for a scolding, perhaps a check up? Either would’ve been preferable..
To the way his smile fell as the questioning began.
“W-What do you mean..?” He had a look of mild confusion on his face, not completely understanding what the man meant. “I can use magic just fine.. I don’t understand why I wouldn’t..“
“Why did you not transform?”
He fell silent at the question. His blood would’ve ran cold, were it not naturally so. Dheginsea knew. He knew. Why did that scare him?
Up until that point, those that found out only did so when Nils showed it to them.. There was a certain level of control in those situations. But now, someone found out outside of his influence.
He’s a dragon too. He told himself.
He probably sensed it. You could too. He told himself. He tried so hard to rationalize it. There was no reason to freak out. He should answer this normally.
But it went wrong too many times in the past. Kindness turned to distrust and then fear or hate as soon as they saw his eyes, his ears or his teeth. Another dragon should understand this. But then why? Why did Dheginsea’s eyes hold suspicion in them?
“Stop it…” He said after a moment of silence, his voice weak. Then again. Louder, much more emotional. “Stop looking at me like that! Leave me alone!” He wanted to run. Be away from this situation. He knew he was being irrational, yet he couldn’t shake off the terror gripping his heart.
So with as much strength he could muster he attempted to push the man to the side and run away.
