Lucy Newell signs the thing!

18-year-old defender Lucy Newell has signed her first professional contract with Manchester United.
The England youth international spent last season on a dual registration deal with Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion in the FA Women's National League North.
As coincidence would have it, the left-sided centre-back spent the 2023/24 campaign in the company of LW Olivia Rabjohn; sister to fellow England youth international Evie - who was injured on England U19 duty this summer playing alongside Lucy.
Newell was an unused substitute tonight in United's home game versus Liverpool in the FA WSL Cup, but will hopefully find herself earning some game time as the season progresses. With Le Tissier, Turner, Janssen and Mannion ahead of her though, perhaps a loan move will be in the works for the second half of the season in the Championship - similar to how Grace Clinton was farmed out for 6 months a league down and then a full season in the WSL. Time will tell.
