Hi besties. Not to get personal on main, but don’t ever tell POC especially biracial individuals that they are “not ____ enough.” Just because someone’s features does not necessarily fit into your stereotype of what people of that race or ethnicity look like does not negate their identity - particularly if your genetic makeup is the same. Having more subtle features or appearing more ethnically ambiguous does not mean that they can be told they shouldn’t identify with that group.

As a biracial individual it is a constant struggle trying to feel like you belong. You always feel like you’re between two worlds and you never feel like you are truly accepted. It hurts. It hurts when you’re told you don’t meet someone else’s threshold of belonging purely based on physical appearance. It especially hurts when it’s your own family that is making those comments.

Yes, while having stronger features (and be less white-passing) will force you to have different experiences than me, do not tell me that I’m not Asian enough for your standards or that I’m “barely Asian” when compared to you.

Also, stop “apologizing” by discussing how someone else’s feelings are affecting you or how they relate to you. Not only is it a terrible way to apologize, but you’re manipulating the person into feeling guilty about expressing their emotions.
