I started playing Super Metroid again. I have some early thoughts:

Frame of mind matters a lot to how I’ll like a game. Picking up Super Metroid coming off of the first three Mega Man X games? Bad plan. Picking it up because I was fed up getting lost in Dark Souls? Working out much better.

Was this jump the inspiration for Super Smash Bros. Brawl?

This game has more “Bomb every wall” in it than Zelda 1 but infinite weak bombs and walls that tell you when you need a stronger item make it way less frustrating.

Samus is awkwardly tall and moves with the grace of a wayward boulder. I love her so much.

That said, even a tiny visual or audio cue for walljumping would have been nice.

Okay fine moody atmospheric music can be cool.

I wish I could curl up into a tiny ball and lay bombs.

That’s all for now. Just got the Varia Suit, which I’m pretty sure means I get to run around death lava land now. Which is good, because unless I missed something that’s the only way I can go without getting way better at wall/bomb jumping than I am.
