Not Him ( Part two) - Harry Winks
Part One
A couple of more weeks have passed since the last time you've seen the man you used to once call your best friend. It still saddens you to think that maybe he didn't care about you as much as you cared about him, deep down that's what hurt you the most. You've been through a break up before, you've had your heart broken before but this felt like something else. It felt like betrayal in some way, a way you couldn't quite drscribe.
Time passes by, you went to a couple of more dates with Alex but things didn't just feel right between you two and he felt it as well. You really liked him, but in the end you just couldn't see him as something more than a friend...and you were more than glad when he was the first one to say it, he felt like you two shouldn't push things any further because you were obviously made to be just close friends.
A call from Dele, a few playfull words and somehow he ended up dragging you to a birthday party of someone you've probably talked only twice
At least he's hamdsome. You said to yourself, thinking about Ben Chilwell.
All of that led you to this moment, standing in the VIP corner of the club surrounded by tens of people, drinks in their hands and smiles on their faces. Dele called you asking you to come with him to the party, he knew that you needed a way to release all the stress you've felt with your final exams coming up and you're graduation in just a few weeks.
"You're almost done?" James asks you, sitting next to you with a small smile.
"Sorry? What?" You shake your head, his voice bringing you back to reality.
"You've been out for a few minutes." He raised an eyebrow, "Thought you were sleeping with your eyes open."
"Hahaha." You rolled your eyes playfully, you've met just a couple of times and this one was the third but you two instantly clicked. "Aren't you a funny one?"
"So I've been told." He smiles at you proudly, thinking of it as an achievement and you just shook your head at how cute he looked.
You're eyes looked around the club, it was filled with Ben's teammates and many of the England boys, some were with their girlfriends and some just sharing some funny stories with each others. You've been enjoying your night but you felt your heart stop when you saw him standing in a corner a small smile tugging at his lips, a drink in hand as he chatted with someone you've recognized as their England teammate but don't quite remmener the name.
You were now standing a few feet away from the small circle they've created, not that you've felt left out or anything you just needed a few seconds away from the crowd. You leaned against the bar, a heavy sigh leaving your lips. "I'll have two cokes." You heard someone say next to you, he had a thick scouse accent.
"Thanks." He said, once the bartender placed the two bottles in front of him.
You raised your eyebrows when you noticed a hand sliding one in front of your face, you turned around and finally looked at the guy.
Your eyes slightly widening as you recognise him, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
"Didn't say I wanted one?" You tell him with a raised eyebrow.
"I know you do." He shrugged, a smirk traced on his lips. "Noticed that you've only drank one cocktail all night, no alcohol."
"Are you saying that you've been watching me?"
"Let's say that I was observing" He emphasised on the last word.
"Isn't that the same?" You tilted your head to the side slightly.
"Not to me." He shrugged.
"No alcohol for you either?" You ask nodding at the bottle in his hand as you watch him take a sip.
"Hate dealing with a hangover, especially when I have training early in the morning." He explains, putting the bottle back in front of him.
"You've got training in the morning and yet you've came all the way from Liverpool to London?" You asked curiously.
"So you know who I am?" His eyes lights up, another smirk making its way to his lips.
"I think everyone does at this point."
Your words seem to surprise him, he looked astonished at first but he gives you one of his big toothy grin and you couldn't help but smile back.
"Liverpool fan?" He asked.
"Spurs." You simply answer, bringing the bottle closer to your lips. "But I do like Liverpool, You've done great things these last couple of years."
"Thanks." He nodded as if your compliment made him blush a bit, " So are going to tell me your name or?"
"Don't act like you don't already know it." You smirked, narrowing your eyes at him.
"Okay, busted." He chuckles and you do the same. "You're Dele's girl?"
"No." You respond too quickly, "He's my friend, more like a best friend if you ask."
"Same goes for Winks?" He suddenly asks, making your heart beat fasten in the process.
You looked up at him and you could already feel your cheeks heating up, you stayed silent for a few more seconds trying to recover from the shock of the sudden question.
"He's my friend as well."
"Doesn't seem like it." He smirks once again, "He's been watching you all night."
"What are you? A detective" You snapped at him, which made him laugh. Seems like he was having fun messing up with you.
"Easy there tiger."
"I am sorry." You sigh.
"It's okay, I get it." He nodded, looking at you with a small apologetic smile.
"You two aren't friends, are you?" You asked curiously once again.
"Well..." He trails off, "Wouldn't describe us as friends but doesn't mean we're enemies or anything like that."
"Why though?" You pursed your lips, the scouser looked like someone really nice so far and you wondered why the two weren't really friends.
"It's just how things are, Just because we're on the same national team doesn't mean that we have to be best mates" He shrugges casually, "We do share some words sometimes, it just that maybe we're a bit different. And to be honest, I don't think he likes me all that much after the UCL final last year." He ended his rambling with a proud smile on his face.
"Bitter memories." You scrunched up your nose at the memory, you've been there at Madrid and to say it was a heartbreaking night for your friends would be an understatement. You've continued chatting with the scouser for a few more minutes and you couldn't not notice Harry glancing at the two of you every now and then. You laughed out loudly at one of Trent's stories as the two of you somehow ended up on the dance floor, his hands and your hips and yours around his neck. You were a bit too close for your liking but for now you just decided to ignore it.
"You're welcome." He suddenly whispers in your ear.
You looked at him, clearly confused by what he said thank you for what? Before you could open your mouth and voice your thoughts Harry suddenly appeared beside the two of you.
"Trent." He nods his head toward the scouser, "I am borrowing her."
"Sure." Trent nodded, pursing his lips.
"Might not give her back." Harry mumbled, making you narrow your eyes at him.
He suddenly grabbed your arm, you looked around and saw Trent sending you a wink.
"Let me go." You simply said, but Harry just ignored you, dragging you out of the club.
"Can you tell me what the hell are you trying to do?" He finally asks once the two of you were standing outside, where there was pratically no one. Probably because it was a bit too cold for anyone to stad there at the moment, at least not a sober person."Trying to have fun, You?" You glare at him."By flirting with a hundred of different guy for the last couple of hours?" He snapped, he was angry. You could see the small vein on his forehead popping as he spoke.
"Flir-" Your eyes widened in shock, "Are you serious?"
"I've noticed you all night!" He yelled once again.
"Okay, first of all you need to lower your tone." You warned, poiting out your index finger. "And second of all, It's called having a friendly conversation with friends."
"Friends?" He scoffed, "First you stroll in with Dele then sat there for hours with Ben and Madder and as if it wasn't enough you started dancing with Trent!"
"You're delusional!" You laughed humourlessly, shaking your head from side to side. "And even if I were, why are you so mad about this?"
"Because you've been ignoring me for weeks and then you come in here and ignore me again like I wasn't there at all!" He cried, "Do you hate me all that much?"
"I don't hate you." You sighed, "You know I could never hate you."
"Than why have you been pushing me away? I know I've said some pretty hurtful things and I am sorry about that. I really am, I didn't mean any of those words."
"You've done it twice, You always assumed the worst about me as if you didn't know me at all..."
He stayed silent, it was obvious that he didn't know what to say.
"You've chosen those girls over me every time and yet I've been the one by your side every time" You said, your eyes softening as your eyes met his brown ones.
"I know." He nodded sadly, "I just thought that they were going to really like me,you know?"
"Everyone likes you." You rolled your eyes, "You've just been choosing the wrong ones."
"I am sorry." He mumble again, finally calming dowm a bit.
"Stop apologising." You shake your head, "I guess I deserve those words after all."
"No you don't!" He raised his voice, "You should never let anyone talk to you like that, Not me not anyone else! No one." He breathes, "You're an amazing girl, an even more incredible friend and I've been hiding behind all of those girls for too long."
"What are you talking about?" You asked confused now, what was he hiding?
"I can't hide anymore, I can hide how I feel." He let out a shaky breath, "I've been denying it for too long, I've been an arse to you because I was the jealous one."
"J-Jealous? Why would you be Jealous?"
"Because you've let someone else hold your hand, Someone else kiss you." He finally admits, his eyes never leaving yours.
You felt the world around you stop, You felt like you could collapse at any moment.
"I like you, not as a friend." He smiles down at himself, "God, I think I am way pass that. These few weeks have been rough, and without you...I've got used to having you with me, you always making me feel better."
"H-Harry I-" He cut you off by grabbing both of your hands in his.
"I don't need any girl, I need you. Being away from you made me realise that i don't just like you" He takes a small pause,"I love you."
Those three words echoed in your ears again and again for the next few seconds, you were standing there completely immobile. Never in a million years you would've thought that you felt the same.
"You don't have to say anything." He shrugged, "I needed to get that off my chest and let you know."
"Harry." You felt your eyes fill up with tears,"I like you too. A lot."
"You do?" His eyes lights up.
"Why do you think I was so upset about everything then? God, I hated hearing you complain about girls that didn't deserve you."
"I don't deserve you."
"Shut up." You cried, "You deserve the world."
He didn't say anything, he just stepped closer to you his eyes lingering on your lips as if he was asking for permission. You gave him a small smile, telling him that it was alright. He didn't lose any more time, he finally closed the space between the two of you and placed his lips softly against yours so delicately as if he was afraid that you would break at any second, You enjoyed the feeling of his warm lips against yours. A few seconds later the two of you finally pulled away, both catching your breath. You closed your eyes a smile on your lips, you've never imagined that you would be kissing him outside of a Bar in such a cold night after everything that happened. "Are you willing to give me, us a chance?" He asked softly, his thumb caressing your cheek so lightly. "I am, I want to." You nodded, pulling away from him. "Small steps, baby ones."
"I promise." He nodded, "I love you." You didn't say anything, you chose not to. Because once thise three words were said, there was no going back. "You don't have to say them back, take all the time that you need." He reassures you, holding your hand tightly. "I just wanted you to know how I feel and that I am not letting you go again."
"Thank you" You smiled.
"Can I kiss you again?"
"No."
"I was actually just being polite." He smirked, yanking you closer without warning and placed his hand behind tou neck as he passionately kissed you again and you couldn't help but smile through the kiss.
"Lads, they're bringing the c-" A voice suddenly said, making the two of you pull away quickly both turning around looking at a smirking Dele standing by the door."It was about time!" He smiles, " "Disgustingly cute."
"Shut up!" You blushed, hiding your face in Harry's chest. "Come on, Lovebirds. They're bringing the cake." He repeated, gesturing for the two of you to follow him with a wide grin on his face. You both nodded silently, walking toward the door and Harry suddenly grabbed your hand in his. You looked down at your linked hands and smiled at him, pecking him on the cheek. Once you were back inside the club, You noticed Trent standing next to a friend and he smirked when he noticed your linked hands.
"Thank you" You mouthed, giving him a small smiled.
He sent you a wink before he smiled at Harry, nodding his head as if he was saying You're welcome.
