T-minus 2 days until #MarathonMonday! This pic was snapped after being reunited with my family after the 2013 race. Beyond thankful we all made it home safe and sound. When the bombs went off I was just across the finish line being pissed at my time and how the last few miles my race went. Then life changed. From that moment on I promised myself I would never regret a race or fret over a finish time because running (to me) is about more than that. I celebrate from the start to the finish and party each step of the way... #NeverForget #BostonStrong @bostonmarathon #tedysteam #teamsparkle #BeBoston #OneBoston #fitfluential #sweatpink #sparklysoulambassador #womensrunning #FFTFL #werunsocial #weightoffmyshoulders
It's One Boston day and I almost missed it. As the years pass, it doesn't have as deep a hold on me as it once did although the mark is always there. 7 years ago, my life changed in the blink of an eye. Even though I wasn't visibly injured, I felt the effects of that day for years (still do at times). I didnt think I'd get to a point where I would be grateful for the Boston Marathon Bombing but here I am in 2020, expressing gratitude. Last week, on a podcast interview, I admitted that if it were not for my experience at the Boston Marathon in 2013 I dont think I would be where I am today personally and professionally. I am grateful for everything I have learned about myself and the healing process. And damn did I learn a lot, and I screwed up a lot-- overworked, drank to cope with my emotions, neglected my mental health, made poor decisions and choices.... the point is my healing journey wasn't linear (and still isn't). I am a better person and healthcare practitioner because I learned how to heal myself. I learned how to take care of myself and support my mental and physical health in my darkest, scariest time. So for #onebostonday in 2020, I sit in my house quarantine during a damn pandemic that caused me to close my new performance and recovery center before it even opened. (While many worse things have happened to others, I am just commenting on my business for the moment). While the defeat and disappointment settled in at first, I finally realized-- I can learn from this insane, uncertain, scary time or I can pretend it's not happening. I can learn how to take care of myself here and now or I can neglect my mind/body/soul. Just like in 2013, I don't have a choice on what happened that day (or months in this case) I do have a choice on how I respond and react. I choose to respond with patience for myself and an open mind for the future. I choose to respond by taking better care of myself and those around me. I choose to do my best each day. I choose to rest, to nurture and to support my health. I choose to help in anyway I can. The feeling of running and floating above the pavement excites me. Four years ago, some were robbed of this feeling and taken away from this life time. But the #spiritofboston , the endurance of a runner and community has become stronger every single day! 💛💙🙏🦄 🏃 💪 #onebostonday💙💛 #oneboston #bostonstrong #nevergiveup #neverforget
