At first, Cassandra’s immediate distrust and liberal use of ‘you can’t trust a spirit!’ had Cullen wary of the boy. Try as he might to overcome any biased thoughts, he is still not yet entirely comfortable with spirits (or anything of the mage world, really) and was left often to ignoring the other’s presence. The letters, however, had begun to get to him. He had grown fond of Cole, in a way that perhaps he doesn’t see him entirely as an entity anymore– no, now, the boy is more human, and he doesn’t mind shooting him a smile whenever he sees him, even if his first reaction to the letters is frustration. It’s nice to have someone who understands.
