The comment caught Krem off guard. He set down his mug and looked over at Cole, where he’d suddenly appeared next to the mercenary as he sat alone in the tavern. 

“Everything alright, Cole? You know you can talk to me,” he said softly.

Concern laces his thoughts, now, wonderingif the boy had ever made him ‘forget’, and hewants to ask but he can’t phrase it, but whyin all of Thedas would Cole think he wantsto forget the boy?At times, he struggles to remember, and itgnaws at him, a fear he’d known only arare few times in his life.

“We’re alone now… you can tell me.”

Ears remained lowered, was talking about such things something he really wanted to do. Matt peered towards the stairs expecting someone to come up to where they were at any point. He could trust Cole though couldn’t he? He’d done so before. Gripping his own hand with another fingers scratched along the length of a scar, “Is it a something you want to be told?” he questioned lifting an ear in curiosity, there were many things he could talk to the other about. Recent emotional conflicts that he couldn’t even define? Then there was the stuff further back. 

Clan matters that he was sure Cole at this point had picked up from his thoughts at some point. Or he may of even drunkenly confessed them to the other at some point. The thought of either made him uneasy. “Because if you really want me talking I warn you I can go on for ages about the details.”

“Am I even human?”

Krem frowned at him, struggling to think of a decent response. Why’d Cole come to him about this? The Chief would’ve been better for it. Or Stitches. The Inquisitor. Anyone. 

“...Not a demon,” he said eventually. “An’ humans can be pieces of shit anyway. Wouldn’t worry too much abou’ it.”

Eyes rise at the feeling of lithe hands trying to through his hair without disturbing him, a few pieces being tugged into place. Cole was always toying with something, out of sheer curiosity or mischief was the tricky part to figure out. “Cole, what are you doing?”

But he doesn’t get an answer, the blond disappearing as quickly as he came. When he goes to the bathroom, there’s a small blue ribbon in his hair.

At first, Cassandra’s immediate distrust and liberal use of ‘you can’t trust a spirit!’ had Cullen wary of the boy. Try as he might to overcome any biased thoughts, he is still not yet entirely comfortable with spirits (or anything of the mage world, really) and was left often to ignoring the other’s presence.The letters, however, had begun to get to him. He had grown fond of Cole, in a way that perhaps he doesn’t see him entirely as an entity anymore– no, now, the boy is more human, and he doesn’t mind shooting him a smile whenever he sees him, even if his first reaction to the letters is frustration.It’s nice to have someone who understands.

It stung and Cole’s hands seemed only slightly warmer than the surrounding air. Knocked out in a bar fight he was disorientated, confused about his surroundings since he didn’t know where he was. Watching the boy wrap up his arm he couldn’t bring himself to even think about withdrawing the limb. Couldn’t bother to put up any usual fight of ‘it’s fine. I can heal myself.’ Then again, saying that was a lie to himself, he did like the help. “They didn’t cut my face right?” Matt asked, his free hand raising to cover his eyes, jeez it was painfully bright out. “It’ll still be pretty?”
