Things I hate about the first few weeks of school.
2016/1/13 Wed (Exchage Day 5 months 9 days )
I just started the 2nd week in SMU today. Okay, not exactly the 2nd week because this is my second semester here. My duration of exchange is 1 year. But I feel that it’s just like the”first day of college” which happened three years ago, and also is like the first week of my first semester in SMU. Everyday is painful. I can feel butterflies in my stomach every time professors call on names (whew. I didn’t take out my placard ). I guess I’m still not confident of myself here.
Things I hate most about the first week of school here is GROUPING. I am aware that local student don’t like to group with exchange students because they are very serious about their GPA. Therefore, I always don’t like to take the first move when it comes to forming groups.(Maybe I am afraid being rejected.)Last semester in Patricia’s Marketing Class,she asked each of the exchange student to introduce herself to the whole class! At first I felt awkward because it was like an auction......Exchange students were the product and the local students were the bidders. They watched and chose who they would take into their groups(or they didn’t want any). Though I didn’t feel comfortable with this,I believed she had good intentions. I was so glad and so surprised that someone invited me to their group! They are Sean and Felicia, my best local friends. They still give me so much love till now :)
I told my school buddy about this. He teased me and said, “They must be C students. That’s why they invited you without second thoughts. HAHAHAH”(eye rolling to the back of my skull) However, things turned out good. WE GOT AN A IN OUR PROJECT. I was not a free rider and I didn’t ruin their project.
But this semester, things doesn’t go smoothly. I have problem with grouping in some of my classes. I tried emailing them but haven’t got their replies yet. I guess that’s the answer NO. Thanks God I’m not the only one having this problem.Lots of exchange students are in the same situations. Hope I will find a group at the end of this week !Wish me good luck!
