髪の毛で音を感じる 新しいユーザインタフェース「ONTENNA（オンテナ）」
一見、アクセサリーのようにも見えるこの小さなデバイス。でも、これは、誰ものためのものではありません。「ONTENNA（オンテナ）」は、ヘアピンのように髪の毛に装着することで、振動と光で音の特徴をユーザーに伝えてくれるもの。ろう者の生活を支援するために開発されています。

わたしが子どもの頃に通っていたアメリカの現地校には、ろう者の同級生がいました。彼女たちと会話するために、「なに？」「ありがとう」などちょっとした手話はみんなが知っていました。よく覚えているのは、学校の避難訓練。耳を塞ぎたくなるような大きな音で学校中に響きわたる警報も、彼女たちの耳は聞こえません。周囲の様子を見て、何が起きているかに気づく。
これが一人でいる時だったらどうでしょう？それに気づく術がありません。…
