the older of the crawford twins

tessa’s powers manifested late into the war - she was considered a normal human, a status that was dangerous to have at the time. if it were not for her sister, dale, she would’ve undoubtedly suffered the fate of many other normal humans. however, once her powers developed, she was as much of an asset as her sister during the battles

working on the front lines was something tessa hated, though she understood her importance and gritted her teeth against the violence around her, swearing that she had to look out for her twin

while her job was to bring back her fallen comrades in the war, she equally healed humans - while fearful her war crimes would be exposed, she doesn’t regret her choices

after an exhausting five years of running away from the war and then running straight into it, tessa wants nothing more than a simple life with her sister, hoping to forget all the darkness the war brought them.

the younger of the crawford twins; the one who hates it when you mix them up

unlike her twin, dale’s powers manifested quickly and uncontrollably. her abilities sparked on accident in a silly fight, resulting in dale orphaning her and her sister with one last push away from her parents.

dale swore to protect her sister in the war, believing herself to be cursed and her sister to be a normal human vulnerable to death -- to her. wanting nothing but her twin’s safety in the war, dale was willing to join whatever battle necessary and fight whomever was thrown at her to ensure the last piece of her family remained.

dale isn’t proud of the vital role she played to the war after she was scouted by one of the head commanders, but there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for her sister to make it out alive.

her transition after the war was difficult, the woman craving her life with her sister as it used to be -- though she knows it’s impossible, dale finds herself holding onto hope with the steppes.

ada is a human living in the steppes

ada is a bartender working at mirage

working in the army before the war, she was quickly promoted to sergeant during the battles, acting as a mentor for the new soldiers and leading them into battle. her successes were greatly praised by her superiors with their effective offence towards the powers during the beginning of the war

however, everything changed when her six-year-old adopted son started developing levitation powers half way through the war - though ada tried to hide her son’s newfound abilities, his nature was soon discovered by her superiors and despite her desperate pleadings, he was put down. 

losing all focus in the war after her son’s death, ada was no longer sure which side she stood on - she became sloppy on the field and nearly welcomed death in a supernatural inferno that demolished her whole team

miraculously, ada found herself living mere minutes after her death -- she can’t make out the details for her life even today, but there’s an image of a young girl’s face that she’s sure means something

fearful from the outcome of the superhuman’s triumph, mixed with her previous army position for the humans, ada keeps her head low at steppes, hoping only to survive

a single child in a typical white picket fence family, rose grew up with a simple life - green grass and pancakes on sunday morning, the kind of normal people strive for. rose was far from the smiling girl in the framed photos that lined the halls at her house

she was bullied all throughout school for the smallest things - her wide hips, her round cheeks - without any friends to call her own, with nothing but a voice inside her head that told her not to eat, to throw it up, to be pretty

she fell down a downwards spiral of an eating disorder, building up a cold exterior so no one could see, or help -- but no one noticed, and she couldn’t go back

the war ravaged her life, tearing every last bit of it apart - including herself when she realized she had powers of her own. to this day, she still has little knowledge of it, and how to use it -- quite frankly, she hates how she only has one power while others had two, questioning why she always was less than others. 

she settled into steppes by accident with the simple job of a cashier, despising how even in this “new world”, she still doesn’t live up

anja is a superhuman with enhanced strength and dark magic.

BIO

better known around town as jinx, she’s the owner and manager of mirage.

daughter to a wealthy ceo, her life was planned before she was even born - at 18 she was married to a much older man for a business deal.

she was unhappy with her marriage, as it was clear she was only used for a partnership seal, only to be used again by a man she was forced to marry. she was 6 years into her marriage and her powers went unnoticed by her husband, who had detailed plans for their preservation in the war before his --untimely -- death in the chaos. 

she emerged from the war with a hand in it’s movement, choosing to start a new path without her old life’s constraints. 

anja arrived at the steppes and quickly took over mirage. while the place hardly seems suitable for a girl to be in, let alone own, her newfound powers keep patrons in line. any doubt of her authority is swiftly dispelled and while amiable, anja’s low tolerance for disrespect is made very well known.

heather is a super-human with telekinesis and replication.

 heather is the deputy of the steppes, employed by the grimm family. 

 daughter, sister, wife, and mother to two before the war, heather was the only one out of her entire family to develop powers. they were uncontrollable and unwanted by heather, quickly manifesting into something that was feared in her once warm household.

 out of worry and fear for her family, she left to join a rehabilitation facility for super-humans where she learned to repress her powers in hopes to return home.

 when the war started, the government raided facilities to round up and lock away super-humans for an advantage. heather was one of the unlucky ones, shoved away specialized jail cells that would contain her repressed powers. 

 she had spent so much time pretending her powers weren’t real, it was hard to come to terms with the fact that they might be her only chance to survive now. humans were outmatched by the powers, super-humans began to tip the scales in their favor. and they performed raids on facilities jailing super-humans, often winning by a landslide. this is how heather escaped.

 she rushed to return home, only to find an empty house and empty drawers. the suitcases were gone too. lost without her family, she spent the entirety of the war searching for them. she fought but did only what she had to do to survive. her only priority was to find her husband, and kids. 

 never finding them, she’s heartbroken and angry at herself for ever having left, for ever having powers. she spends much of the next 5 years, wandering around and grieving her loss. until she walked herself in steppes.

 it’s there she’s given new life, new purpose.

Marlie had always wanted more in life than what she was born into.  With pure dwarven blood running through her veins she was nothing more than a labor worker, helping to build the heavy machinery within the cities. Her mother had worked, her father had worked and so did her brothers... But she dreamed of more. More power, more money, and more recognition for her bright mind. Within her free time, she had been working on her own inventions, taking her time to read the blueprints of the humans and replicating the technology. Now, with a small black market business going, she sells off these replicated weapons to anyone who’s willing to pay a pretty penny, adapting them to suit the buyer. She knew she deserved more, so she made it herself. Will the humans find out about her black market? Or will one of her weapons fall into the wrong hands?

Clementine is at home in the water. She uses her skills and stealth to steal from cargo ships and passenger ships, selling the goods for the highest price later. She had lured many men to their deaths, quickly drowning them before taking their goods. She is careful with her targets though, and won’t kill someone just for fun. These men (or women) are usually the worst of the worst, seeking out the comfort of the creatures they claim to despise. She is feisty and calculating. And while she does steal, her money usually goes to help those in need and rarely for herself.
