EGYPT: Update

  The governing Muslim brotherhood party in Egypt has been removed from power following a wave a protests against the Islamist policies and the failure of their government. The army forcibly removed President Morsi on the 3rd July 2013.

The policies of the brotherhood had been progressively more divisive, with some even fearing a civil war. One Open Doors worker said "The church has been praying and crying out for the Lord to save Egypt from this bloody scenario" and comments that the prayers of those around the world for Egypt "has given us much hope."

It took five days of protests, the largest in Egyptian history, to remove the President from power, and has thus dispelled the contemporary fears of Egypt becoming an Islamic state which would have prevented the embrace of people from all ideologies, beliefs and backgrounds. The Church was under a huge threat, and while this has been lessened to an extent, there is still the question of 'What next?'

Please pray for peace in Egypt and a transition to an orderly and democratic government which integrates the brotherhood without alienating them or overwhelming the system. Pray that God will give wisdom to those making decisions. Pray that the new leader might know and fear the Lord.
