Beginning of the end or is it the Start of something new

Well, I've got towards the end of my very, very long journey!!! I've finished the bloody course!!! Well, I've got to do one more assignment but, I've handed the most important document and that in my head means I'm finished!!! I'll feel better tackling this crappy assignment as I'm not worrying about travelling to placement and what monstrosity I'll encounter at work!! So Happy. B ❤️

Can someone explain to me how I managed to become the main ODP in an obstetric emergency?

Let me set the scene....that day was a slow day. My mentor was asking me if there's anything I want to do as I was coming towards the end of my anaesthetic placement in obstetrics. I said, "no, I'm good!". Out of nowhere, the emergency bell rang. Now usually, when the bell rings, I ignore as where I was doing the placement, it was in the delivery ward in maternity. But on that day, I wanted to be nosey and see what was actually happening in the private rooms. The lady kept fainting while she was pushing and kept having shooting pains on the side of where the placenta was attached to the uterus. Both the midwife and obstetrician confirm that the uterus has detached and she needed an emergency Caesarean section. Out of nowhere I became the spare part who was helping my mentor putting AAGBI standard monitoring equipment to dragging the patient into theatres and getting her prepared for surgery! Now, this was the kicker...I went to get the intubation trolley and was setting it up for my mentor to take over, when the anaesthetist looked at me and said..."Are You Going To Be My ODP?". I said, "yes". The minute I said yes, I wanted to cry and run away!! I'm not ready for this!!! I've only just started my final year of this course!! I can't deal with emergencies!!! Not yet anyway!! 😭😭😭😭😭 Now here's me with a look of pure fear written across my face, looking for cricoid pressure as we were preparing to a Rapid Sequence Induction and I was shitting it! What happened if I didn't put enough pressure? What if I handed the laryngoscope wrong? OH DEAR LORD, HELP ME!!! Everything went to plan. Both Mother and Baby were fine. Once that was over, my mentor said to me that she was totally proud as to how I managed the whole situation, spoke the to the mother and explained everything that I did and the way I demanded that the anaesthetist repeated the instructions twice to confirm everything and if she didn't know that I was a student....she would thought I was a qualified member of staff! What. A. Day.

1st Year Madness

Oh my gosh....I've been disgustingly bad, haven't I!! I had promised that I would post on a regular basis and I haven't been doing that at all. My bad. I'm sorry!! Please forgive me!! I just didn't know how MUCH this course TAKES OVER MY LIFE!!! Well, I survived first year. I did move away...only to come back after six months as I was feeling a lil homesick. Which makes the travelling a lil harder! But I am in COMPLETE LOVE!!! I like the fact that it's keeping me on my toes, learning new things about myself and yeah...this is a lot better than what I was doing before!! Oh yeah...I GOT INTO SECOND YEAR!!! B X
