It never ceases to amaze me that there are some people in this world who would defend this atrocity. Countless times I have had Danes or Faroes tell me that I am the one who "doesn't understand," that I "wasn't there," and that I "need to get my facts straight." That this is part of their "culture," and that they need whale meat and blubber to "survive." Oh, and my personal favourite: that this carnage is done "as humanely as possible," as the Faroes have claimed time and time again. You know what I see? I see an unborn fetus ripped from their mother's womb. I see children partaking in this bloodbath as if it were as natural as breathing air. I see entire communities laughing, singing, rejoicing, and smiling as they destroy entire pods of innocent pilot whales. The Danes and Faroes should and could be better people than this. They are supporting and taking part in the destruction and biodiversity, and the lives of sentient beings, who have just as much right to live as freely as you and I do. Slavery, witch burning, and denying the Blacks and women the right to vote all used to be tradition, but we've moved on from that. We have progressed. Nothing is set in stone, and we can be better for the planet, for ourselves, and for the animals that share this world with us.
