Orange moss agaric (Rickenella fibula), also sometime referred to as orange mosscap, is a tiny, delicate, ocher-colored mushroom that grows exclusively in moss - it’s a beautiful find in Appalachia’s late spring to early summer forests. The above photo was taken along Little Laurel Run in Coopers Rock State Forest.

Orange Mosscap - Rickenella fibula

Rickenella fibula is a tiny orange mushroom with caps up to 1.5 cm across, that grows gregariously in moss beds, hence its common name. This inedible mushroom can be found in Europe and North America.
