Phase 1 of my characters as pokemon characters! From left to right, we have rona, the fire type gym leader, Orchid, the grass type leader, and Griffith, the water type gym leader!
Griffith/rona/Orchid is so funny to me because you have griffith and Orchid who are short/on the shorter side of average and then there's rona who towers over both of them
for the prompts!
“I know you’re strong enough to do this on your own” - Welly Boots
"I know you're strong enough to do this on your own."
Orchid woke up from his dream, the words echoing through his head in his mother's voice. He wanted to believe her. He really did. But he felt so inadequate.
"I know you're strong enough on your own," his mother's voice insists.
He rubbed at his eyes as he got ready and started to make breakfast. His dream-mother had been oddly insistent that he was doing fine. That he wasn't failing Daisy and Orange. He wishes it was easier to believe that.
He woke them up so they could get ready for school, reminding them he's picking them up after school. He waved them off to the bus stop and started to get ready for work.
He wasn't a parent. He was vastly out of his depth. But Daisy and Orange needed him.
He pulled on his work shoes and a scarlet raincoat and looked up at the sky. He's still learning how best to carry the weight, but, yeah. He is strong enough to hold it.
Orchid smiles.
He needs this job. He needs to support his little sisters. Never mind the fact that he feels like he hasn't gotten a full night's sleep since his parents' funeral. Never mind the fact that he feels like he's about to collapse. Never mind the asshole who screamed at him for doing his job. He needs this job. He needs to support his sisters. They come first.
Orchid smiles.
His high school friends are visiting from college. Visiting parents for the summer, probably.
Its...fine. He's fine. It's not like he really wanted to go to college anyways.
They ask if he wants to go out for dinner with then to catch up. He shakes his head. He can't take any time off. Rent's bad enough, but transportation isn't cheap either. Neither is food.
Orchid smiles.
His friends leave. He's not bitter. It's not his sisters' fault. It's not their fault their mom and dad didn't have any other family who could take them in. It's not their fault.
Orchid smiles.
Maybe he's a little bitter. He hates that. It's no one's fault. Not really. If he should blame anyone, he should blame his dad! He's the one who was drinking and driving. He certainly shouldn't be bitter towards his sisters. They didn't do anything.
Orchid smiles.
...He doesn't want to smile anymore.
Oh shit that piece was just supposed to be intertwining my two groups of ocs and now I have IDEAS
were Orchid and Griffith high school/college sweethearts?
Or were they the only person who would listen when things got too much?
were they each other’s best friend and play wingman for each other?
were there unrequited/requited feelings that never got acted on?
There is a STORY there and I am so excited to figure it out
Griffith found Orchid on his bedroom roof, smoking and staring at the stars. It was unhealthy, sure, but really, was Griffith in any place to judge? With the number of nights he's sat up here getting tipsy on cheap wine, it's not like he was any better.
so Griffith climbed out the window and points out constellations. It's a tired and we'll work routine, but there's a comfort in it. At this point the could both point out the stars with their eyes closed, and they tell the stories almost in unison.
As the night drifts on, so does the conversation and somehow the conversation turns to god.
Orchids laughs. "Oh, my friend, there is no god out there. If there was, I wouldn't be here, smoking on a rooftop. If there is a god we will not find them in staring up at the sky. No, if there is a god out there, it is one of our own creation, which only makes them harder to find. "
And Griffith disagrees. "I think there is a god, but they're so busy with bigger things and important people that ordinary folk like you and I slip through the cracks, and wind up forgotten. There is a god, but really, what's the point in praying to them? They'll never hear."
And in that rooftop in the middle of the night, something inside both of them rings that perhaps, they are both correct.
