True Language of Hawai'i
For too long have Hawaiians and locals in Hawaiʻi been mispronouncing Hawaiian words. And this isn't due to speaking pidgin the reason is far deeper than that. Not many people or Hawaiians know our language, the Hawaiian language we use and see today is not the same one our ancestor's used 1000's of years ago. Many people don't take the time to research, read, study our language enough to know the truth. Hawaiian is a Polynesian language obviously, Hawaiians are Polynesian. So isn't it weird to anyone that our language sounds so different to that of Tahitian, Maori, Rapa Nui etc.? When the missionaries came to Hawaiʻi in the 1800's they were not linguistics and had no clue how to convert Hawaiian into writing. Sadly they butchered our language and took a very big chunk of our ancestor's mother tongue. They took out all t's and replaced them with k's and replaced r's with l's. Most people today either pronounce Hawaiʻi as 'Havaiʻi' making a V sound or as 'Hawaiʻi' with a wa sound because they don't know which is right. The Hawaiian language we know today is standardized meaning crafted into how the missionaries wanted it to be. The alphabet is an important part of learning a language. I'm displeased at how even Hawaiian language educators refuse to teach their haumāna (students) the proper way our language is pronounced or work together to create an alphabet that resembles more of how the Hawaiians of old used to speak...
