He couldn’t entirely blame people for not wanting to hear - some people had their own priorities to deal with, while others didn’t want to be caught up in drama.  Still, it was nice knowing there was someone willing to lend an ear.

Once they had entered the building, Masako flipped through the catalog one last time. 

With the money Ruu had been given, they probably could have just gone to any supermarket of their choosing--but isn’t it better to save as much money as possible? This was Masako’s specialty, after all. It’s a science. It’s an art! Today, she would pass down her knowledge to a worthy source. The two of them could probably get away with using only about half of the kid’s budget at a place like this, but...

Masako placed a steady hand on the child’s shoulder.

❝ Ruu. Stick close to me, okay? The grannies that frequent this place can get pretty vicious when it comes to special deals.... ❞

That’s right. Masako couldn’t let her guard down just because she’d been enjoying her time with Ruu today. The world of bargain hunting is a ruthless battlefield, after all. A dog eat dog world. Was it really alright to expose sweet little Ruu to such a vicious sport...? Wakasa would definitely never forgive her if she ended up traumatizing the poor kid.

No, there’s no way that would happen. That’s what Masako was here for, right? She’ll definitely protect Ruu, no matter what!

With that in mind, Masako bent down to the young girl’s level.

Truth be told, Kirara was worried about the girl she had just brought into Etowaria. It had been several hours but she hadn’t said a word yet. Even the shyest CreaMates had broken their silence quickly but she remained silent.

“Is there anything you would like to do? Would you like to eat? Or keep on walking around?” At this point, the Summoner was grasping at straws. If only Lamp was here to explain everything about the newcomer.

“Always nice stopping by a pet store, huh...?” He asks, crouching down slightly to get a better look at a tank filled with white and grey rats.

“Whenever I come here, I always feel tempted to get myself a little pet,” He chuckles, moving on to a giant container full of rabbits.  “I don’t think I’d ever be able to handle a pet, though.  Unless it were a fish.”

“You got any pets, yourself...?”

Chihiro is quiet for a second, looking at the writing on the paper. She honestly couldn’t blame the girl - she’d probably act the same if in her position & yet, she knows they have the power to do something if they try.

“ You’re right - she is a bitch. ” She didn’t intend the response to sound so angry, but she was never good at hiding her emotions. Folding her arms she continues, “ & nothing’s changing my mind on that. ”

Saki is so silly, she gets excited over every little thing. Even a bracelet made with cheap plastic beads is enough to bring this kind of smile to her face. That’s part of why you like being around her so much —her smile makes you smile. Her energy gives you energy. With all of that, you can barely even contain your excitement anymore! You just have to show her right now!

So you hold up your wrist, feeling sure your smile is mirroring hers. The bracelet slides down your arm a bit in response. It’s too loose, but you’re sure you’ll grow into it. 

“ Mmhmm! Look, I have a matching one! Now everyone in our new class will know we’re best friends. ”

Saki bounces in place for a second before deciding to swallow you up into a hug. She’s like the baby goat you saw in the petting zoo. Jumping and kicking around just because it didn’t know what else to do, and you can’t help but laugh. Saki is so silly. That’s why you’ve been best friends for as long as you can remember.

“ I guess if we came to class like this then everyone would know we’re best friends anyway, huh? ”

Saki laughs and sets you free, though you think that it would be nice if the two of you could just skip school and just goof around like this all day instead. Not that you would ever do something like that, obviously…

Ah, wait. You must have been lost in thought for a second, because Saki wasn’t by your side anymore. Just where did…?

A distant voice ahead draws your attention.

“I’ll race you there!”

She’s already running?!

“ Wha — That’s not fair! If I catch you, I’m gonna take my present back!! ”
