Before explaining the characters and world of the chaos universe, i first should explain what i call the "Rings of reality"
The reality of the chaos universe is set in a group of rings, each ring with their own native sentient group.
On the outer rings of reality there exists the void, which is a place that embodies the concept of unreality. A space that isn't a space. The void both does and doesn't exist. The void exists in a state of non-existence. yada yada yada…
From the instability of the void come creatures known as Voidlings! Voidlings are polymorphic beings made of voidmatter that can look like anything. They come from the void and can be any level of power. Some voidlings are as powerless as a speck of dust, while others can be so strong that they can destroy the fabric of reality itself if given the chance. Because of this, our next ring of reality was formed.
Our next ring of reality is known as "The outer fields", which is the border between the multiverse [our inner ring] and the void. Its similar to the backrooms in the sense that it exists solely as a buffer to keep people in and harmful voidlings out. To help with this is this ring's native sentient group, the guardians.
The guardians are powerful beings made of a mix of void and anti-void. Their entire existence is entirely for the cause of protecting those who fall through the cracks, and filtering through the voidlings wanting to make their way into the inner rings. Because of their instability, they are incapable of leaving the outer fields. If a guardian were to leave the outer fields, they would cease to exist altogether. Therfor its very important to their cause that they dispatch any and all harmful voidlings before they make it into the inner rings.
And finally, the inner rings, the multiverse and anti-void.
The multiverse is an always fluid group of universes all held within the anti-void, which is a void-like place that embodies the concept of existence itself. All life matter, the stuff that makes up the fabric of reality of the multiverse itself, is held within the anti-void. To destroy the anti-void is to destroy the multiverse itself.
The multiverse's native sentient group is Sophont, which is an umbrella term in this context to mean any and all sentient life. Humans, monsters, demons, gods, all are Sophonts.
The multiverse can be broken down into universes, universes into timelines, timelines into years, months, weeks, days, moments, the concept of time itself, etcetc.
[In "Tic tac toe rules", Voidlings can go anywhere in reality but have to get judged and filtered through the outer rings first most of the time, Guardians can never leave the outer fields for risk of ceasing to exist, and Sophonts can go between the multiverse and the outer rings, however they can't leave into the void without an illusion created by a powerful voidling otherwise the eldritch lack of reality of the void will cause their head to explode]
Now! Where does the chaos universe fit into all of this?
Remember the point of "Voidlings can be any level of power"? Well, some voidlings can be SO strong that they can create entire universes all on their own.
The chaos universe is the creation of a voidling named Frog, who imbued the fabric of the universe's reality with the rule that ANYTHING and EVERYTHING can be possible within it. Its entire existence as a universe is full of chaos, yet somehow somewhat stable in spite of it.
Why is it called "The chaos universe" and not something cooler?
Easy! Frog couldn't come up with a better name.
Now, why is this universe so special?
Because, it is the only universe in the entirety of the multiverse to have a permanent and constant connection to the outer rings, and through that the void.
You see, while universes close to the edge of the multiverse tend to get cracks into the outer rings, none of those are permanent. Due to the fluid nature of the multiverse those cracks usually end up either moving to a different point or place, or fully closing. However, the chaos universe is different. Due to nature of the universe it's cracks into the outer fields never fill, only ever moving or growing larger. Because of that it is a hotspot for voidlings of all kinds, especially those who somehow manage to slip through the grasp of the guardians.
This, obviously, leads to some interesting situations…
Herez a kinda not that great concept zketch i made to try and help vizualize the "Ringz of reality" concept! If you learn better through imagery then thiz zhould help a little! if not? Juzt ignore (>~<)
