Hurt and Heartfelt - Walburga and Orion
Early March,1979
Everything was prepared when the owl came. Walburga had the bag ready, a numbered grid of where to attack first. She was dressed in a black leather outfit complete with leather gloves. It had proven to be fairly flame retardant even if her spells slipped slightly. Everything had been set for her to begin razing London, but then the owl came in.
There had been no word for days, no mail, no one had ever come to face her. That was smart. As the first day of his disappearance ended, Walburga entered Orion’s study. She always did this when he was gone without notice for more than a day, but he did not know. She looked around for his ring. He had told her of the enchantment placed on it long ago and typically when Walburga went to check, the ring wasn’t there. When she entered the study and she saw the signet ring pulsing with light, her heart nearly stopped. It only ever appeared if Orion was in serious danger, which hadn’t been for years. She had rushed to tell the others who she knew to be allies with Orion, but they all refused to act without orders from their precious dark lord. Walburga couldn’t have cared less about the cause or the stupid figure who ran it in that moment; she just needed her husband back.
The owl dropped the note into her hands and Walburga’s vision blurred from tears as she saw the familiar script. She gently opened the letter hoping it wasn’t a goodbye before the monsters had killed him. She pulled the sing from her pocket and saw the glow still emanating from it although it was dimmer than it had been days before. She opened the letter and allowed her eyes to skim over the words before her shoulders relaxed slightly. He was safe. The note said he was safe. She shook her head reading it over again trying to figure out why he was not here. She rolled her eyes when she spotted the reason, he thought he would put her and Regulus in danger. “Foolish man,” she murdered under her breath as she checked herself for the necessities.
When Walburga was sure she had all the essentials, her wand and a few hidden blades she called out. “Reg, I’ll be home soon dear. I’m going to go get your father. Don’t go anywhere. I’ve spelled the house so only your father, Kreature, I could enter or leave. I’ll take it down when I get back with him.” With that Walburga walked down the front steps, and apparated to the first safe house, that she knew was Orion’s favorite.
When she saw a light on in the window, Walburga let out a breath she hadn’t known she was holding. She walked to the door wand raised and opened it looking around for potential enemies, but all she saw was the love of her life a crumpled mess on the couch. Walburga’s heart seized inside her chest as she raced over to him going to her knees so she was beside him as tears rolled down her face. She looked him over carefully seeing the many, many wounds. She brushed the blood matted hair out of his eyes. “My love, what have they done to you?” She waved her wand filling a glass with water and turning on the kettle. She had mastered basic kitchen magic years ago. “I need to get your shirt off. I need to see how bad it is.” She said wiping away the tears from his eyes a calm concerned voice coming from her rather than the panic she felt inside. “Or, I promise. I will make ever person who did this to you scream begging for death. I will take everything from them and distort them to the point that even if they managed to get away no one could ever recognize them. They will pay. I promise.”
